Taste of Home changed its formatting 3 yrs. or so ago. I subscribed to it for years and loved it. When they changed it, it became less homey and a lot more commercial, not only in recipe presentation, but with the inclusion of advertising. I disliked the new version so much that I no longer subscribe.

There is a whole series of cooking magazines,--Taste of Home, Cooking for 2 etc. Go to Riemann Magazines, but be aware that Reader's Digest bought them out a couple of years ago, so there is some advertising. Birds and Blooms, Country, etc. Pictures are absolutely gorgeous and some great articles and tips etc. I subscribe to Reminisce, which is pictures and recipes --old stuff--because I can remember so much more when I see pictures of the 40-50-60's You can also go on line and get a briefer version of the magazines. Where is Canada do you live? Maybe some of us here could occasionally mail you some, but I think you can subscribe--probably cost more. If you get to the lower 48, let us know and we will be glad to 'clean' house and send some back.

I was just at the Taste of Home outlet store in Greendale WI on Monday. I prefer to get the annual recipe books from both Taste of Home and Quick Cooking. I was missing some on my collection and wanted to check it out. WooHoo! They were having a buy one get one free sale on their books! I got a bunch! I love them!

I can try most any recipe in their books and it always turns out well. I do prefer the older ones because I like the print and formatting better than the new ones.

I used to LOVE all the Reiman publications - UNTIL Reader's Digest bought them out a few years ago and started including all that extraneous JUNK that is in all their other magazines. You could start a bonfire with just the excess cardboard reply cards that often cause you to tear pages to get rid of them. Not to mention the ones that just fall out and clutter whatever place you happen to be reading in...

They really ruined a good thing.

I have been getting them for years...and have many of the cookbooks. I get the cookbooks on Ebay. I love the magazines, well worth it for what you get. I also get a few of the other cooking magazines they offer...love them all!

I look at them now and then and occasionally look through their website. I like the magazine. They'll send a free issue, or at least had an option when I was there. Then it was something like $10 for 5 more issues to continue it. I don't like getting the "free" magazines. Usually too much junk mail. The holiday editions are usually very good when I've seen them.

I have a lot of Taste of Home cookbooks and I really like them. I used to get the magazine but I find magazines harder to deal with (organizationally speaking) so I stick to cookbooks.

I was subscribing to the Birds in Bloom but it has really gotten skimpy. This will be my last time ordering. I wasn't aware that Reader's Digest had bought Reimann, I was wondering why all that advertising was there. I would shake the magazine before I looked at it to let some of it fall out. I don't like junk mail, commercials, advertisements, telemarketers. I like the idea that granny2three suggested. Buy the cookbooks on e-bay. I had rather have the recipes in one book anyway.

I too liked the old Taste of Home better than the new ones. My daughter got me this last subscription, but I won't be renewing my subscription. You can go to Taste of Home online and get most of the recipes. That is what I usually do and then just print off what ones I want. Is that just the difference in the Canadian money and the United States currency. Seems like a lot of money to me for it. I think I have been able to get the six issues for around $12 or so. I always like reading recipes. I have bought several of their hard cover books at rummage sales pretty cheap. Usually around a dollar. The last one was only fifty cents.

Thanks for all your tips. For $37 with tax, that's a lot of money for 12 issues,(2 years) and especially when it's not as good as it once was. I agree with you re: Readers Digest. They seem to ruin everything they get their hands on.
Over the past couple years our 2 main Canadian magazines (Chatelaine and Canadian Living) have gotten a lot thinner, and many more pages of advertising. Less and less recipes.

I'll have to look closer at the glossy larger magazine on the newstands to see if I like it well enough to spend $13. One is 161 appetizers.....that one doesn't interest me, but there was another one I saw as well.

I didn't realize there were actual cookbooks. I'll be looking online as well.

I just went to TOH website and browsed their forum.
There are a lot of customers who are very unsatisfied with the new look and format and they won't be renewing. So the KTer's who feel the same way, are certainly not alone.

i used to get Taste of Home, Quick Cooking and Birds and Blooms. They were really cheap, I think under a dollar an issue. But they changed, had less articles that interested me, so I let them all lapse.
