I think there was a posting about items people gave others who were undergoing chemo/radiation treatments recently. Do a search not only for Kitchen Table but also all forums as it may have been on either Home Decorating (Conversation side or Cooking).

A friend of mine who underway chemo loved lemon drops as the chemo often leaves a metallic taste in the mouth. She also used Biotene rinse for Dry Mouth.

One CD that I recommend highly is Music for Healing Mind, Body & Spirit by Steven Halpern. Anyone who listens to it, especially when listing through earbuds, will be so soothed, and will be asleep before the album even finishes.

I've had several friends go thru the same, and I sent them all Karen Drucker's "Heart of Healing", plus her lovely little "Healing Hearts" pewter hearts. These are sing-along/chants, and really are wonderful. You can listen to some of her songs online. You'll feel the heart-beat and it will lift the spirit.

Nana Mouskouri songs are very relaxing for me and corny as it may seem Slim Whitman is also. He sings ballads like Rose Marie, Singing Waterfall and never sang anything he wouldn't sing in church. He was the top star in England for many years. It took Elvis and the Beatles to take him down. I wake to him every morning.

The Gregorian chanting monks you can find you tube video of them I have had various chanting monks cds, they are very relaxing.

we had tv's and recliners so usually had my feet up and watched what ever was on...our cancer center is situated on large pond, so did a lot of bird watching...on the gloomy days read, too..a good trashy forget it all novel...i also took a bread and butter sandwich or something to eat cause no matter how early you get there it always seems to go past lunch hour...

by nature i'm nosey so loved the times near the nurses station...

and i wasn't afraid to smile at other patients...we all know why we're there...

did my own driving, thank goodness, but sure slept a ton after i got home...

that's what you can do if you're able is to drive and pick up...laundry...shopping, ect...this is the time to look ahead and not the what ifs...and remember she's still your rock, best bud, and cheering squad...cancer is one fraction, NOT the entire person...i'm still grandma, wife, mother, friend, and oh yeah, cancer survivor...

I do not have any nature type music, but when I have a moment alone and want to relax, I love listening to George Winston on piano.
....my absolute favorite is Variation on the Kanon (Pachelbel). I could listen to that over and over...

I used to go to a chiropractor that had a nature CD that he played for relaxation before and after he worked on me...it was crazy how it almost put me in a hypnotic state. I wish I knew what it was.

I also suggest relaxing, soothing. If her chemo is like what I have experienced, they will give her Benadryl to counteract any allergic reaction and it makes you pretty drowsy. I tried reading but that didn't work for me because I could stay focused so something soothing would be my choice.

I'm sorry that your friend is ill. I've linked the CD I used during chemo below. It has guided imagery against soothing sounds. I'll give you one other tip for your friend. Absolutely do not listen to any music that you love because afterwards your brain will associate that music with chemo. Even though I sailed through chemo with very few side effects, my brain still produces feelings of anxiety when I hear certain music that I listened to during chemo. Weird, huh?

I know she says she's 'not into classical', but there's a piece of classical music that immediately makes my whole body relax, everytime I hear it--doesn't matter what I'm doing, where I am. The "Aquarium" movement of Saint-Saens "Carnival of the Animals". While it's technically clasical, it really isn't the heavy, serious kind of music we generally think of as classical. Carnival of the Animals is a very interesting piece, written with a sense of humor.

Also, consider taking a laptop or smart phone and using Pandora. If you enter just one song name or artist with the feeling you want, Pandora will find many others.

Yes, Susan, that's the piece--maybe not the absolute best rendition of it I've ever heard, but the youtube version certainly gives the feel and quietness the piece evokes. Even listening to that, I could just feel stress streaming from my body. Maybe not to everyone, but to me, that music is like magic.
