I just won a free cake!

I never win anything but I was at Safeway doing my normal grocery shopping when the bakery announced a cake walk. I was right there so figured, what the heck. You didn't really walk but just stood on a number and then they pulled it out of a cup. It was my number. And of course I had just got a Father's Day cake at Costco earlier. Oh well, we will be eating cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week. LOL

It is a 8" Double Fudge Cake. Here is a picture of it.

Boy, that cake looks yummy! I could go for a piece of it right now!

There are no Safeways on Long Island, NY :(

There is something to be said for "singing." Many vineyards pipe classical music out to the vines so the grapes will be rich and fruity. Our vines this year are heavy with fruit, but the only singing they got was that of the wind. I know a LOT more about grape growing than I do about citrus, but plants are plants. One Aussie Vineyard with holds water for days until the vine droops. It thinks it's dying, so all the energy goes into the fruit. Then they water, and stop. Over and over. I vote for a half bark girdle first. Next, I'd try piping music out there. It's a Mexican lime, so try a little salsa music. Last, I'd plant a little competition really close, and if the competition bears, I'd say good-bye to that lime and use it in the BBQ smoker. OK, so I'm editing. Patty is 100% right. That tree needs sun! Think about it. A Key Lime... All there is in the Florida Keys is sun! No shade. I don't think the "tree don't like you, Senor." I think it wants a sunny spot! Thanks all...I won't worry anymore. My initial concern was that those ridges would create havoc with getting cookies off that scored surface. I'll use parchment paper, but I'll need some guidance since I've never used it before. When I take the cookies out of the oven, do I take them off the parchment paper to cool, leaving the paper on the baking pan to reuse...or do I slide the paper and the cookies off the pan altogether? It's great to learn something new each day!

I always find folks laughing when the companies toot about guarantees for 100 years! Whenever my friend, my upline when I was a CM consultant, tells about the long guarantee, there is always someone in the crowd that comments how none of us will be around 100 years from now to know it the researchers were right. That is so true. I guess we just have to trust the researchers. That is why I stick with the reputable companies like CM, Mrs. Grossman, the big names. They have a lot invested in having a good product. Sometimes I see an odd brand sticker but I pass cause I just don't know if it is any good.

Mom2, In a way, BM's performance over the weekend might have been the best thing, a "silver lining" event. The skids aren't that thrilled to be with her, she is being so flaky that you don't have to work to hard to accomodate her and my goodness, how many people are at the house? It sounded like upwards of 15 folks conservatively with all of the various kids? Let her come to you and yours. And let her come correct! It sounds like since you cooperated, you can uncooperate now without a confrontation. She needs to fit in with your team, not the other way around. It sounds bad but it might really help you now. ''how you can be a good parent to one set of children and then completely ignore your other kids. how can one do that???" BTW, my skids, SS30 in particular, feel that my DH is being a better father with our son than he was with them. From what I know, they are right. Dh completely ignores his grandkids which of course feeds right in to the hard feelings. Lovehadley is right, often dads look at the 2nd set of children or child as a means to do things over in a better way. DH is not Super involved at the school or extracurriculars but he does show up for meetings, parent teacher conferences, Tae Kwon Do promotions, the occasional kiddie party if he knows the parents and so on. I know he did not do that with his first set of kids, SS in particular. My SS30 is still very angry about this fact. I think it's pretty common but what can I do? Tell him DON'T be a better father to our child because you weren't great with your first? Good luck.

OOOOOOOOOOOOh, Now I'm hungry for chocolate!

If that cake tastes half as good as it looks, you wont be able to stop eating!

Czech Chick--do you have Genuardi's? It's the same chain, and generally they carry the same brands, have the same specials (although this cake thing might have been just that particular store's contest).

Actually it was surprisingly good. Not too sweet, with a dark chocolate devil's food cake. DH & DS both liked it.

PLease can I have me a piece?I buy a piece right now.I have just got up,had a bad nite because I am dumb and did not know how to flip my breaker to make my refrig come back on,called greg at work he could not come and I could not understand how to do it,so I cried worrying about it all nite thinking my NEW refrig was torn up for good.So you can see why I need a piece.LOL.But to finish my story my refrig is ok now to check out my stuff to see what has to be tossed.We kept it closed all nite,and it happen late last nite but still I am very careful with food.Got a long day ahead and Man that choc would lift me and get me going.Thanks.LOL,.

LOL at Maybee!!

Catlady,our fridge went off one day also and before i freaked out,i decided to unplug it,then plug it back in.It worked and i didn't have to call anyone.

On the other hand,i had to clean out the freezer last night,because DH(Not so dear then) didn't close the door all the way,and he doesn't know around what time he did it.But he told me at dinner time,so after dinner i checked it and had a drawer full of what looked like kool aid,with chocolate thrown in.All the ice cream was totally melted,so it had to have been opened quite awhile.So i had to toss a bunch of stuff.It's not the first time he's done it either.Last night though i had him come and help me clean it up and out,so maybe that will be a reminder to him to make sure it's closed.

I keep the freezer key tied to the door handle and insist on keeping it locked. That way I can be sure its closed tight.

They grumble about it, but they do it--most of the time.
