I never posted a pic of my little rescue dog

This is Penny. I saw her picture in the paper and it said she had been at the Humane Society for a couple of months. I couldn't believe it, because she is so cute. She came home with me that day, slept curled up against my neck, and gets along great with the other dogs. I just love her to pieces.

Comments (7)It is pretty, has nice girl leaves. You did good! Thanks for letting us know. We wonder how someone made out that has a problem and posts here for help. They like to be kept potbound and the pot should be 1/3 the leaf span, so that would be 2" or 2 1/2. Did you take the plant from the pot to see if it needs a bigger pot? 4 is too big, there will be too much soil and roots might rot and if they don't, it might take a while to fill out the pot to bloom again. If you don't disturb it too much, it should keep blooming if it is still making buds. After a blooming cycle is a better time to repot and you can cut off some of the bottom roots and repot it in the same pot. tish...See MoreStaph infection in my little dog
Comments (4)We are taught that you should NEVER do a half-neuter; if you're going to neuter an animal and both testicles are not descended, then you go looking for the missing one. That can mean a much more extensive surgery because you may have to go into the abdomen. But it must be done because intra-abdominal testicles are prone to infection and cancer. Where is your pups staph infection? If it is a skin infection, that is very common with young dogs especially at 4-12 months of age. Their immune system isn't fully mature and may not be able to keep the normal amount of skin bacteria in check, so an overgrowth occurs and they get a skin infection. Many animals will clear a mild infection on their own without antibiotics. Some need a little more help, especially if the infection has gone deeper. Being in the shelter plus being under general anesthesia for his first neuter and then placed into a new home is very stressful, which reduces the effectiveness of the immune system. So if he would have normally been OK with his staph infection, with all the stress it may have been just too much for his system to handle. I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's not contagious in the sense that everyone already has staph on their skin. It's how the body reacts to it that determines whether or not an individual becomes sick. Comments (33)It is so good to see and hear about creatures being rescued, taken care of and loved. Here we have a cat problem... dogs too but mostly cats. People seem to think they are disposable and do so in such horrible ways. We don't have much space but we do care for 8 cats plus. We get them fixed, if we can (some of the show ups won't let you near them) and look out for them. Always wish we could do more. We do support our local shelter with donations etc. just does not seem like enough....See MoreI'm going to meet a rescue dog today!
Comments (29)Aww, thanks Maggie. I think you have a good heart, too. My husband just rolled his eyes when I told him I want her. He knows I usually get what I want, I guess it's lucky for him it's rescue dogs and not diamonds. We will all definitely spend some time with her to make sure it's a good fit. I know the heartbreak of taking in a rescue that we had to return because he bit me once severely on the arm (yes, I kept him thinking maybe I had startled him) but then attacked me when I patted the seat to tell him he could jump up to sit next to me. Luckily I was wearing a thick bathrobe and he never broke skin. My husband cried when he brought him back to the shelter, he had gotten really attached in the two months we had him....See More
