My dog--my post for the day
Comments (10)There's nothing like puppy-love. Even when our puppies are 6, or 9, or 17. I love my boys, Harry and Sam. Harry is my heart. I enjoy everything more when he is with me. Sam is loved, too; but my heart was so filled with Harry it was very hard when DH insisted on getting another puppy. (Two big hunting dogs in our little house and me barely able to move at the time.) I was very sick for the first 18 months we had Sam. I wasn't able to work with him, train him, or bond with him properly. In his defense, he adores me and tries so hard to be a good puppy. He fails, miserably, LOL, but he does try. Now that I'm functioning again I try to make a special block of "Sam Time" every day. Harry and Sam aren't the best of friends, but I've worked with Sam enough that he knows he can't hurt Harry. Sometimes they actually play together. Right now they're both piled up on the couch, bum-to-bum, lightly snoring. Enjoy your friend! He will be true forever....See MoreMy Little Dog (Warning: About a little dog I once had)
Comments (29)Hi CB! Sure.. this is the latest version I do, it's so very flexible. 28 oz whole tomatoes 4 oz pickled jalapenos 2 cloves garlic handful of cilantro juice of 1 lime 1 tsp oregano salt to taste Put all ingredients in a food processor and pulse to the texture you desire. I puree the stuff very thin as that seems to be what I find served around here. Again, the recipe is very elastic so if it' a little too spicy cut back on the jalapenos and vice versa. I will throw in a bell pepper or a few banana peppers if I get the urge etc.... Make it what you like. :)...See MoreStaph infection in my little dog
Comments (4)We are taught that you should NEVER do a half-neuter; if you're going to neuter an animal and both testicles are not descended, then you go looking for the missing one. That can mean a much more extensive surgery because you may have to go into the abdomen. But it must be done because intra-abdominal testicles are prone to infection and cancer. Where is your pups staph infection? If it is a skin infection, that is very common with young dogs especially at 4-12 months of age. Their immune system isn't fully mature and may not be able to keep the normal amount of skin bacteria in check, so an overgrowth occurs and they get a skin infection. Many animals will clear a mild infection on their own without antibiotics. Some need a little more help, especially if the infection has gone deeper. Being in the shelter plus being under general anesthesia for his first neuter and then placed into a new home is very stressful, which reduces the effectiveness of the immune system. So if he would have normally been OK with his staph infection, with all the stress it may have been just too much for his system to handle. I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's not contagious in the sense that everyone already has staph on their skin. It's how the body reacts to it that determines whether or not an individual becomes sick. I've worked with hundreds and hundreds of skin infections on animals and have never had one myself, so people must be relatively resistant to it....See MoreI lost my first rescue yesterday, my sweet Jenny
Comments (70)These doggie faces who have passed.....Sob! It's so sweet to hear from you all and to hear stories of your kids. I hope that there is a heaven and that we will see them all again. My late Dad, who died on Valentine's Day 2007, was a huge dog lover, and we had Brittanys growing up, but just one at a time that he trained and bird hunted with. Dad was at home under hospice care, sitting in his recliner in their living room. Mum and I were sitting on the sofa. Dad looked up at the ceiling, and said with this look of wonder on his face, 'They have DOGS up there!' Dad was not religious, and the only time he went to church was for a wedding or funeral, so Mum and I were shocked. Hospice had told us that he might say odd things as he neared the end, but when we heard that, we knew he'd be OK. The last picture that I have of Dad is of him laying on a hospital bed in their guest room, with his Brittany, Beau, laying on top of him, cuddling. That's the way a dog lover should spend his last days....See Moreclubm
