Cat Advice Please

I have two strictly indoor cats that I brought back with me from my three years in Europe. There is a stray/feral living in the neighbourhood that I feed on a regular basis (every day he/she shows up). This stray is in roughish shape, matted coat, occasional rips and tears. He/she appears to be friendly and my cats do not complain bitterly when he/she is at the door.

My question is, is it possible to make a feral/stray an indoor cat? I do not want to adopt and allow this cat to go in and out, he/she would then expose my indoor cats to outdoor hazards. I could take the cat to the vet to have it cleaned up and checked, but would I then be able to persuade it to stay inside?

Any advice?

Thanks, Jane
