Pileated woodpecker...

this is a young male that visits several times a day. He is awkward and really leery, we love watching him!

My favorite pic, even with the feeder.

Oh, we love the pileated! There's a huge stump in the yard that the pileated is slowly demolishing. Every other day or so, we find chunks of rotted wood that he's torn apart looking for grubs and bugs. Great pics!!

Your picture is beautiful, as usual Bev! Konrad........you're so right about nature flourishing, if we just leave it alone.......even all the dying things. There are so many creatures that depend on things that so many people view as "ugly" and are far too eager to take them out.

What beautiful birds! I can never get over how large pileated woodpeckers are. In the summer, I chop peanuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, and walnuts for the birds, squirrels, chipmunk, and rabbits. They all love it, and when I put it on the deck I get a great view! And the cold... This year it's hitting pretty hard, compared to last year. Sadly I don't get pileated woodpeckers up here (or should I say down here, they live in the U.P. in Michigan). Your picture is great. :)

Those are great photos! I know I have a woodpecker in my neighborhood, but I've only heard ,not seen him.

Great photos Joan!! I have one that visits me daily too and I used to have a suet feeder just like the one in your picture. I've got one of the ones made from recycled milk jugs now and the squirrels still chew on it.

Great pictures. We have one here too, and boy does he let us know when the homemade food feeders are empty. I love hearing him.

The woodpeckers love our suet feeder. We sure do enjoy them in our yard. DH says he keeps the suet feeder filled because he wants them to hang out around our ash trees. Emerald ash borer has been a problem around here.
