Oh the poor thing.
Lots of times dogs will snap or bite at the insects because they are stinging them and then in turn they swallow the bees etc and get stung inside the mouth and throat. I would say that the swelling there would close off her throat. Friends of mine had bee's and also had a black Doberman, poor thing was stung to death. They figured he ate and inhaled some as they were stinging him.

Thanks all. She seems very thirsty but isn't interested in food at this point. She's the most content on the tile kitchen floor. I guess the coolness feels good to her.

Poor baby. I really feel for her. Hope she is better soon. The same thing happened last year to my dog. Her whole face puffed up like a balloon. We had a yellow jacket nest out front and had to have it professionally sprayed. I also got bit a couple of times on the head and it hurts like He!!.

Oh Mammie, that is so sad. I hate to think of what she is going through. I've sure got my fingers crossed that she has a swift recovery. Keep us posted.

Make sure to check your yard for a nest, you may have one and not know it. You don't want that to happen again. We had a bees nest in the ground last year. Take a good look around.

Do you have any killer bees in your area? Do check for nest in the ground. I do hope she gets better.

Aww, poor girl. I sure hope by morning she is feeling much better.

I'm with the folks who recommend checking the ground on which she was travelling ... also around the house ... we had some wasps under the eavestrough, a couple of years ago.

She does *not* need another shot of that medicine!

And be careful as you travel, yourself ... don't want you breathing roughly, with face all swelled up! (Or lying on the kitchen floor).

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. She is moving around a little this morning, but still very swollen. The vet said this may last up to 4 or 5 days.

I think you're right about there maybe being a ground nest. The problem is we have 30+ acres so I wouldn't know where to begin looking for it. Usually she stays pretty close to the house but I think she wandered a little further yesterday. I am not going to let her do that anymore. She will just have to go with me by her side.

She's a Boxer and right now she's asleep and snoring like a chainsaw, so at least that's normal.

Poor baby! Hopefully she knows now to leave the stinging buggers alone. Be sure to keep benydryl (sp?) on hand. I have to give my Golden Retriever the pills occasionally for her allergies. Her vet said she can have 50mg every six hours based on her weight - 75 pounds. It really helps her out once in awhile when the itching gets bad.

Hope she's better. My neighbor had an abandoned car on her property and there were hornets swarming around it. her son was about 5 and opEned the car doorR. He got stung over 100 times and had to go to the hospital.

Aw, sorry about your pup! Ours snaps at bees all the time and everyone is horrified by it, but he never seems to get stung. I hope that if/when he does, he learns to stop chasing them. That theory hasn't worked with skunks though.

OHHH This just rips my heart out....I'm so glad you acted quick and got her to the vet...Poor little baby....you have good instincts and your baby is one lucky pup!! I hope she's feeling better very soon!!

That is so sad to hear about what she's going through. Sure hope she's over it soon. Boxers are one of my favorite dogs, along with pugs, of course. :-)
