What's for dinner Friday?

We're having leftovers from last night--ham and scalloped potatoes. Did our grocery shopping this afternoon and went to two stores, something I usually try to avoid. Brought the first load home from Publix and got it put away when the heavens opened up and we had a wonderful thunderstorm! After it quit, we went to Winn-Dixie and did it all over again.

The rain sure cooled it off nicely. Ususally in Florida the afternoon rains just make it steamier. We're enjoying it!

What've you been doing and what's for dinner tonight?

salmon broiled with ginger sauce and capers, steamed asparagus w/sea salt and corn on the cob.

Sue, glad you were able to get out and about. I see Indpls. weather in our newspaper. Like to look since DB lives in Greensburg. We only got up to 49 today--or so the paper said. Just heard we should have 70 on Monday, though. Glenda--haha! Hope you enjoyed that tamale. I had a pork tamale a couple of years ago at a little bakery that sells other things on the side. It was homemade and pretty good. Raven, happy birthday to your DH and have a wonderful dinner. I think yours sounds delicious! Shirley, isn't it fun to read restaurant menus? Sure is hard to make up one's mind sometimes! Especially if I'm hungry!! You must be having meatless Friday tonight. We used to do Monday's. (But not every Monday.) Rhizo, I will be right there! Oh, I do love sausage gravy. Now I'll be dreaming about it!! Jasdip, a turkey breast really goes a long way, doesn't it? Okay by me, I love it. Nice dinner--does your cabbage soup have a lot of different veggies in it? Mine does. I use the recipe from the cabbage soup diet. Very yummy!

I also wish more restaurants would offer half portions or something similar. I'm not sure about dinner yet. It's 8pm & DH is working an hour & a half away. He'll probably end up grabbing something on the way home. In that case, I'll just make myself a sandwich & have some fruit & yogurt. I have enough stuffed pepper mix to make a batch tonight, but I've had a headache for several hours & don't really feel like doing that. It's actually supposed to be sunny here tomorrow. I'm trying to get some household things done in spite of the headache so I can spend some time at the pool tomorrow.

It was a beautiful day here today but I was busy cleaning out my closet so the contractor can work on it while we are away. We're headed for the outer banks on Sunday and unbeknownst to DH I'm having my closet ripped out, painted, rebuilt and new carpeting. If you don't hear from me in a while, I might be looking for a new place to live. LOL We're going out for dinner tonight and then we are going to see Spamelot. I could really use the time at home but we got the tickets weeks ago. I'm sure it will be fun

I'm so glad you were able to eat a bit of food Patti! That's a great sight to see. We ate really late. I decided I wanted to have a pork picnic shoulder that was on sale for dinner. Boiled with potatoes. So we went to the store to get it and I boiled it for about 3 hours. Some potatoes went in the pot and some carrots later on. We just love ham that way. This is the second time I've done it, the first was with green beans. Hubby and I couldn't get enough tonite! :) I've got all this wonderful ham stock and we don't like a ham and pea type soup. But I'm planning to make cabbage soup tomorrow and I'm definitely going to be using some of the stock in that. I think it will taste great. Also I can see it as a base for potato soup for some yummy flavour. So I'd better be freezing the stock.

Spicy chicken wings, rice and a Greek phyllo filled with leeks and potatoes. They were given to us and hubs really liked them.

I have oven fry pork chops cooking right now and have some stewed okra, tomato and onion to go with it, and sliced fresh cukes.

Don't laugh, this is my own recipee or concoction, whatever you like....

Cod fish fillets placed in a baking dish, cover with milk and a few pats of butter, sprinkle with paprika and put some diced onion in the milk. Bake in a 350 oven about 15 to 20min, (just till the fish will flake nicely.)

Take out of the oven, lift the fish out of the milk and set aside. Now pour the milk into a saucepan, add whole kernal corn and boiled potato that has been cut into bits about the size of the corn kernals. Add two TBS of corn starch to 3oz of cold water. Put the sauce pan on low heat and slowly add in the cornstarch, stirring continuously until the milk thickens a bit.

Make a baked potato or other vegatable to serve on the side with the fish. The thickened milk broth with onion, corn and potato makes a nice fish chowder soup on the side.

DH is bringing pizza home. He does the cooking, but he worked late tonight. We have a local pizza place that makes them from scratch. DH is allergic to dairy, but these pizzas are so good, I don't miss the cheese. We get whole wheat crust, extra sauce, spinach, mushrooms, black olives, and zucchini.

Diver scallops on a bed of corn with jalapeno peppers and bacon. Yum! My SIL, who lives in Vermont was here visiting her daughter. We met them for dinner at Bonefish.
