It Could Have Been Worse!!!

Was playing golf today. Walking 18 with a push cart. All was going well. I had a 44 on the front nine and was doing pretty good on the back until I got to lucky hole #13. Slight dog leg, tight fairway with out of bounds on left and pond on right. Everything rolls right. Hit my shot straight down the middle of the fairway and it proceeds to roll toward water. As luck would have it, it stopped short of the water. I'm getting ready to hit the next shot when a friend in the foursome yells, your clubs. I turn to look as cart, bag full of clubs, lunch bag, etc. heads for pond. Couldn't quite grab it and in it went! With the help of one of the maintenance guys we managed to pull it out very carefully. A little distracted and with very wet grips, I proceeded to put two balls in the pond...there goes my good game. I did manage a 94. Not bad for a little old lady with arthritic hands, and considering the distraction on #13. I was very lucky to retrieve all my clubs and the little compartment on the push cart remained closed. Otherwise I would have lost my car keys and my GPS. I'm hoping after a few days the GPS will dry out. I called Callaway and they seem to think it will be okay. I will definitely be more careful around water in the future. I've been walking for years and never had this happen but I guess there's a first time for everything.

What a bummer,I hope everything dries out for you! I am totally impressed, though, with the fact that you were walking! People look at me like I'm crazy when I want to walk, though I usually golf nine and not 18. Walking the course is great exercise and it's almost painless as you don't even realize you are exercising.

The same thing happened at our club. bummer.
Impressed that you walk. I ride. I run out of steam before I finish. I really, really gotta start walking.

Killing temperatures of immature roots are pretty high, even with northern hardy nursery items like Japanese maples. If you lose the immature roots it may not show in the top, except perhaps for slower top growth until the lost roots are replaced. I encounter lots of potted stock that has partly dead roots, in addition to damage from careless or ineffective wintering over there is also the problem of roots cooking in small pots during summer (this latter problem is why stock in small containers with roots good on one side and dead on the other is so prevalent; the frequency of nursery plants infected with water molds will also account for partly dead or small roots systems on many specimens).

Look up sociopath/narcissistic. Fritzel is a textbook definition, to the extreme. He has no regard for anyone, only uses to fufill his needs. I think alot of hardcore criminals would fall under the same catagory as him. He could have killed them and then no one would know. True definition of a sociopath. How do we know he hasn't killed anyone, probably has. There seems, according to him, not a big deal to kill someone if it gets him out of trouble. He will probably use a mental defect as a defense, he knew that it was wrong, just didn't care.

Yes I had the meatballs - I love Swedish meatballs. DH saw the chocolate cake - 2 for the price of 1, so we got that too. It's very nice to be able to get something to eat without having to drive somewhere else. DH was skeptical when I told him we could eat at Ikea - but he liked what he saw there too. After seeing that all in person, I would not worry about placing an order and having it shipped out. The quality may have gone down in 15 years, but I think you can say that about most furniture brands. DH and I have gotten so disgusted looking at furniture because we can't hardly find quality at any price. Our kitchen has been a total custom job, but DH and I are the cabinet makers so that holds the cost down. DH said he'd have no problem using Ikea in a kitchen if that was what the budgeted required - much better than the cheaper lines in the big box stores. And this is from a guy you normally hates particle board furniture. We've got the truck unloaded and I'm going to need to get to work and get my wardrobe assembled. I'm excited - the frosted glass doors are going to look so perfect in that room. It was the doors that I fell in love with, and the pants hanger rack. I got two side by side units instead of one big one just so I could get one that the pants rack would fit into. I bet that store gets to be a total zoo on weekends though. If we ever go again, I think I'll make sure I have measurements for the whole house with me just in case . . .

Well it's a new day and still no toilet. I have a septic tank cleaning company coming sometime this afternoon to drain the tank. Apparently what has happened is due to the extreme amount of rain we had in a short time period. We are in low lying land as is all of Houston basically, so our yard is literally under water, flooded except for a few high spots. This is the norm here in these kinds of rain storms. But this time it caused my septic system to drown. The lateral lines that are buried in the ground and drain the liquid off the top of the septic tank are actually under water so the ground around them is fully saturated and unable to absorb the water from the lines which in turn causes the tank to top off and when you flush there's no place for anything else to go. We have been very lucky because this has never happened to us before. We have had septic tank repairs, drained, and the lateral lines rotor rooted out but this is a new one for us. However it's pretty common here and that's what we were told since we have had a deluge of rain. It's also why the septic tank company is busy. We will have the tank drained, that allows the ground time to dry out some and the lateral lines to drain.. We have had septic tanks at many of our homes, including my parents house, and have rarely had any problems. It really is all about how low the land is here and the water table, sea level. We had so much rain so hard and fast it started leaking in the house around one of the door frames. I am really praying for some dry weather! I will say that if you are ever in need of an emergency potty they sell them at Academy sports, in the camping area! Lol the things you can find using Google!

Several posters here on the KT who got their cell phones wet have placed them in uncooked rice to dry out. This link from Popular Mechanics gives more information. Maybe that will help your GPS.

I hope your golf gear dries out and is no worse for the water treatment.
When I still golfed ladies league we had a great albeit crusty old lady on team, named Alice. She drove her own cart as she was about 85. One early evening, she lost control of her cart and drove into the pond. Several quick thinking gals dove in and rescued Alice. 911 was called and the ambulance took Alice to the hosp for a once over to see if she was OK. The whole time she was there, she complained that she was missing her golf round and wanted to know if they will be done with her in time to get back out to the club house for the poker game. The owners of the golf course named that pond...Lake Alice...and a pretty carved sign is there yet today. Altho our special Alice isn't. So, Georgysmom, your right, it could have been worse....you could have gone in the drink. lOL

Oh, Dotmom. What a story. I know it wasn't funny at the time but the visualization now, I couldn't help but laugh! God bless those women who went into the lake after Alice. This particular pond is so grungy, there was no way I was going into the pond after my clubs. I'd buy new ones first. Two of the ladies in my foursome had ball retrievers and we were able to hook them through the handle of the pull cart and pull it close to shore. The third gal drove back a hole and grab the maintenance guy who was working on the course. Except for the GPS, I thought it was pretty amusing.

marie cate...thanks for the advice. One of the gals in my foursome suggested the same thing and when she did, I remembered someone on this forum giving that advice. It sits in rice as I type this. I called Callaway technical support immediately after I got home and they said to remove the battery and give it at least 24 hours to dry out and it should be fine though they couldn't guarantee it so my fingers are crossed.

sleeperblues and lindakathy...I , too, think of it as painless exercise. I attribute my stamina to Georgy. She has so much pent up energy, I began walking here three miles a day this winter and worked up to five miles every day. I've always walked 18 holes but the last two years I resorted to riding because I had bursitis in my right leg. All the walking with Georgy has left me pain free and with a great deal of stamina. Now if I could only figure out how to deal with the hands. They're pretty good by the evening but oh so weak and hurting in the morning.

What a "Bummer" day! BTW to get the GPS or any electronic to dry out put it in a bowl or bag full of rice and leave it a couple days. It'll be fine.
