What's for dinner Saturday?

Is anyone celebrating Independence Day this weekend with a cookout or get-together? We aren't--tile men left yesterday about 3:00 with warnings not to do anything to the floor for 24 hours. Well I vacuumed it today--I think they meant mopping it. But it needs a good mopping.

Tonight I'm copying Ravencajun's dinner from earlier this week and making a dish with Italian sausage (mine's turkey), hash browns, onions with melted cheese over the top. It sounded so good when she posted it the other night.

What are you doing for dinner tonight?

Well, two Saturday's straight to Nikki's down by the farmers market: the usual, 7 layer salad, and this time had their veal cutlet with gravy. Corn muffin for sopping the gravy :o)

For the first time in several years, I got out my bread machine and made a loaf of wheat bread. It turned out great. I made a dutch loaf sandwich with it and had the texas beans I cooked today.

The only July 4th celebration I am going to attend is on the 3rd at the Home where my sister lives. If it keeps on being this hot, I'm not sure I'll want to even do that. Plus I'm not sure it would be good for her. Maybe she and her sisters who are going and I will just keep her inside and go out and bring food in for us. In fact, I can't see taking the elderly out in the heat either so they may just have it all inside.

Rhizo, hope you're finished in time for the movie. Those kabobs sure sound yummy! YogaLady, does that mean we won't see your sweet self for a few days? If so, have a wonderful time but if you'll have access I look forward to hearing about your trip--or you can tell us when you get home. Have a wonderful time. Clubm, everything sounds delish! We just love spinach, but have to watch how much, since Harry takes Coumiden. I see you've been at the Garden Web for a while. Do you post much? I sure hope you plan to in the future!! Well now, Shirley. That sounds like a plan. Wonder where Glenda will lead us tomorrow? I just love cyber-dreams :-) Pam, I sure hope your sister has good news from the biopsies. No dinner tonight. We went to a birthday brunch, ate too much, and have been dragging around all day. Neither one of us are used to eating heavily at 10:30 in the morning. Left there and went to Costco since we were close, Fred Meyer (there isn't one here locally) then home and had company for a while. Brunch was at a casino. The food is good, I had bacon and tomato omelet, more. And I did gamble a little before we left. I had almost lost my $20, won it back so played some more (slots) and that time I did lose it. DH lost his $5 on a penny machine and quit :) We're not gamblers, and I must say, its a lot more fun when I can break even or win a little. My SIL had begun with $200 and was up to almost $700 in winnings when we left, she has more disposable income than I feel I do.

Gosh, everyone's dinner sounds so good! I swear that I'm going to get a slow cooker; I must be one of the few that don't. I'm looking forward to those cool autumn evenings. I sort of miss our little outdoor chiminea....it was enjoyable to sit around a fire and chat over drinks. Jasdip, my eyes are FABULOUS! My vision gets sharper and brighter every day. I asked Robert this evening if he noticed that the TV reception had improved and he just laughed at me. I simply cannot believe that I have this vision out of my own eyes. My doctor somehow managed to finess my new lenses so that I feel like I have almost infinite far vision but still can see well enough close up that I've only needed readers for very small print. I can put on my makeup, read most things without my new little readers. I will donate all of my eye glasses next week. Pretty amazing. I had him, his technician, and myself dabbing our eyes last week at a checkup visit after my second surgery. I made him stop what he was going, I took his hand in mine, leaned close to him and told him how much my new vision meant to me, someone who had really been so burdened by terrible vision since I was a little, tiny girl. I wanted him to know that my life was changed.

Don't think it got past 29F today.. We went and did our Costco shopping today...and then a trip to Safeway..for a few things then to Albertsons for hubbies meds...and deli chicken.. 23F when we got in the car to head home for the night at 5:30... 7:13 pm right now..21F... I just topped off my chicken breast and 3 jojo's with a Halo. :) I like them better than the Cuties...probably the exact same thing...but Halo's taste better.

We had meatloaf, baked potatoes, gravy and succotash.

No celebrating here this weekend, although, we did watch some fireworks last night.

We had linguini with cherry tomatoes, lots of garlic, fresh basil, parsley, lemon juice and freshly grated parmesan cheese. Threw in a can of clams at the last minute to make DH happy. Very light and refreshing.

Made my meatball with soy sauce and garlic recipe with basmati rice, stir-fried corn. Shortcake with strawberries and whipped cream for dessert.

We're doing leftovers tonight. Leftover pasta, leftover salmon, a tossed salad and stir-fried asparagus and carrots. A very quick and easy dinner.

No supper for me today, had a late lunch, bologna sandwich and a banana and a little bit of V-8 juice to drink. No celebrating the 4th here on the weekend except the dinner at church. The Fourth of July we will probably have a cook out here, of course eat inside, we always eat inside with our cook outs.

Whammy burgers! DH loved them! Burger piled high with thin sliced ham and swiss cheese. Pasta tuna salad, potato salad and green bean w/tomato, black olives, diced mushrooms, garlic and onions marinated in Italian dressing.
