You can bring knitting needles, but not scissors. So be prepared to bite the yarn if you change colors. I imagine myself as a little old lady with my knitting needles fending off terrorists on a plane!

I did not know that gel shoe inserts were not allowed. I have many of my shoes that have those in them and my orthotics have the gel type stuff in them. That list is interesting in what is ok and what is not. I could carry small pointed scissors, and a 7 inch pointy screwdriver, but not gel soles I don't really know how I could beat someone to death with a gel insole.

Ummm.. that's not why they are disallowed!
The "gels" that someone can insert with bad intent can be mixed to make something flammable or explosive.

I appreciate the humor but really it's pretty naive to question things like knitting needles, scissors and the like being brought onto planes when you consider that simple razor blades resulted in 4 downed airliners and people are still making a big thing over that event screaming about "protecting" travelers.

I once bought a gardening knife on a trip and smuggled it onto the plane in my "checked" suitcase. Never had a problem with it. So if I put a bomb in my suitcase no one would notice???

Knives are allowed in checked baggage. So are guns.

Lol Minnie! I had to mail myself the foil cutter from a travel corkscrew the other day, $9.00 for postage. I should have just not had a ticket and stolen an old boarding pass!

My husband got stopped by the TSA when he had a small Swiss Army knife with his keys. They took it away, said there was no way to get it back by paying a fine or asking them to mail it, ,etc. I bought him another some time later as a gift.
