Restaurants won't cook them the way I like them, so I don't order them out. I like them rare with lettuce and mayo. I don't care for all that stuff people seem to want to add in with the ground beef, blue cheese, onions, spices, etc..
We always ask when having company for burgers or steaks.

I like medium rare either with ketchup or with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo.

I eat all beef rare or med/rare except for ground beef. That I order medium-well. I like all the pink out but not dry.

Now if I'm doing them at home and they're thick and made with ground sirloin I can eat them medium.

I've had Steak tar tar and really liked it. That was many years ago.

Medium with melted American or cheddar cheese.

Medium rare with melted American, a slice of Vidalia onion, 2 slices of well-done bacon, a small dollop of mayo and catsup, served on a soft hard roll. Slurp!

I like mine as rare as I can have it. With a onion, mayo, real ripened tomatoes, bread and butter pickles and cheese...any kind but cheddar.

I don't want anything pink. Vidalia onion, good ripe tomato and bread and butter pickles. However I will probably eat a lot of different toppings on them.

Good ground Black angus beef, done medium rare or rare with sauteed onions and bell peppers and cheese on Seeded Rye Bread. I must have french fries with ketchup with it too. Yummmmmmm

This isn't something easily found in restaurants, so I usually do them here at home on the grill.

I guess well because I don't like hamburgers with any hint of pink,but I don't like them overcooked and dry either.None of the added stuff in the meat either,just salt,pepper and garlic powder,but I do like lettuce,
tomato,pickles and thinly sliced onions on a whole wheat bun.If I'm eating them with dill pickles I want mustard.Sweet pickles call for Miracle Whip.sometimes I even use sweet pickle relish.
When we had the restaurant,one night we had run out of buns and a family came in and ordered hamburgers.I told them we were out of buns but I could make them on "Texas Toast"(thick sliced bread).They said that was fine,they were hungry.LOL So I formed the patties in a square to fit the bread and toasted the bread on the grill.They all raved about them and came back several times after that and ordered their burgers on Texas Toast.LOL Nothing spectacular to me because I have always done that for my family if we didn't have buns,but I guess some people have never heard of it or considered doing it.Actually I prefer using plain bread or the thick sliced bread because I don't like so much crust.

since i never know whose hands have touched ground beef we eat it well done, but not charred...pretty much the same thing for any meat product. and i never can stand to buy those "chubs" (tubes) of ground beef..to me they're gross.

I must be going nuts. I thought most restaurants aren't allowed to serve hamburgers anything less than medium or at least have to hit a certain temp that is close to medium. Steaks are fine mooing, because contaminates don't get inside... but ground beef is different than steak. It has to be cooked to a certain temp. all the way through, no?

Generally, I don't order hamburgers out anyway so I don't really worry about it much, but I'm surprised people are still eating hamburgers out rare. I don't know if it's laws or insurance or safety purposes, but I really thought most reastaurants are stricker with their hamburger cooking temps.

At home, I prefer my hamburgers med/well but usually end up making them well for my husband and kids.

If you're not watching calories, etc.. try grilling/frying your bread in the meat grease cooked on the stove... similar to making a grilled cheese - without the cheese. Some big chain restaurant does this with their buns. It's actually very tasty.

I won't eat a hamburger anymore unless it is well done,in fact I will send it back if it is not. Steak can be med.rare but not hamburger.

Same as Wildchild. I like steak extra rare but I don't care for hamburger to be rare, but I don't want it cooked longer than necessary, and definitely not dried out. I like mustard on one half of the bun, purple onions, sliced Claussen dills, and tomato. No cheese...no mayo and no ketchup.

If I am cooking hamburger at home, I don't mind it being a little rare. I prefer to eat hamburgers at home.

Well done here but not dry.

DH and I like our burgers rare, so that's the way he barbeques them. Funny, when MIL and two SILS come over, they want them turned to charcoal. DH hates to see the meat "ruined" that way.

I like my hamburgers cooked by someone else who has a large friendly dog. That way I can dispose of the hamburger without having to eat it and the dog is happy. Hamburgers are 'way down on my list of preferred foods.

Medium well with provolone, lettuce and mayo. Sometimes onion. I can tell it's getting close to dinner time. I'd die for a hamburger about now!

The reason I don't like them rare is the texture.

Has anyone ever had "butter" burgers? My mom used to make us a burger served on a toasted bun slathered with lots of real butter on both sides after toasting. Nothing else. Once in a great while I'll still do one that way.

I always thought that it was something just my family did until a few years back my DD who had never had one told me she a a great burger at a place in Colorado that specialized in "butter burgers".

Well done please, with lettuce tomato pickle onions mayo mustard and ketchup. Oh, and a slice of cheese. I like my burgers as CHEESEburgers. I prefer a toasted bun, but that is negotiable. The pickles, however, are not.

There is no such thing as medium-well with no pink. No pink means well done. And well done does not mean dried out nor does it mean cooked to leather texture or black throughout as some people I know insist on cooking it. Coincidently they like to rant that well done is dried out... (sigh)

Personally I like a touch of char and crispness on some of the outside but not so it's completely burned. I like it best at medium well, slight pink, but still hot enough that it will actually continue cooking a bit, even if it procedes to well done. I like it cooked in bacon fat and or butter but few places will do that. Sometimes I like a thick burger and other times I like a thin burger. The bun (preferably wheat or better yet, multigrain) should be toasted and I like a couple very thin slices of red onion a dab of mayo/salad dressing or Ranch dressing along with a touch of BBQ sauce or maybe Heinz 57. A lot depends on the mood and the accompanying dishes. Sometimes cheese, sometimes not. Sometimes topped with pepperoni or ham, and sometimes I just want burger and bun!

And you can keep your preformed frozen meatloaf patties they pass off as hamburger patties. Especially the ones they make an odd wavy shape to simulate hand formed.

Getting a burger, well, any meat cooked past medium without being overcooked isn't easy, much like getting eggs cooked hard without being rubbery. There's a very fine line between right and overdone. A cook with talent can do it but unfortunately there's not a lot of people who really have talent cooking at these places. There's also a fear of food poisoning so they want to cook it to cover for poor food handling methods. Sad, really.
