When I was a kid growing up, I thought of being married to Prince Charming and having a castle full of kids (or atleast a huge house with atleast a dozen kids).

When I was a kid I should have known: That I would relocate a few times in my adult life, too.

When I was a kid I never thought: I'd be married and have 4 kids with a guy I went to high school with!

Retire? What's that? As a kid, I never thought of that for Dad and Grandad used to come from the village and haul me with him sometimes when he drove the tractor around, I've heard ... also heard that Gramps and I were great buddies - he died when I was just six (just after my Mom went to mental hosp.).

When I was a kid, how could I ever have thought that I might marry a young woman from Iowa ... and have two dual-citizen kids?

Or spend a few years in Korea helping clean up after a war (or be married and have a son born there, for that matter)?

By the way ... may I ask a favour? Please spend some of the time available to you during your life trying to work things out internationally so that we can avoid war, O.K.? War - is - just - horrible!!

When I was growing up, I never thought that I would go to college - no money. But I did. I began college with a job and zero money. There was no plan and no support. All I had was good grades, a good entrance exam score, and not enough experience to be afraid of what I was sbout to undertake. My goal was to push it as far as I could go, then do something else. Six years later, I walked out the door with a BS degree. It was all about attitude and hard work.

I used my degree for a lifetime of work, and always thought that I would retire "when the time was right for me". It didn't happen. Economics of my company and the changing times forced me to retire early at 62 - Sob.

I thought that I would have difficutly surviving on early retirement funds - I have survived.
