Swimming pools and eczema
Comments (4)It sounds like you have a very difficult issue on your hands. As many have alluded to already there seems to be an abundance of methods to tackle eczema with some more fruitful than others. You may have heard of a few natural methods which are starting to become increasingly popular of late, one of which was tried by a family member. We were all really pleased to see very favourable results over a long term and so its something I thought I would mention in the hope that you may find it beneficial. After a lot of internet trawling I came across one site that appears to be a very safe source of reliable information as it provides a comparison and review of natural eczema treatments. I really hope this is somewhat useful! Best of luck! Comments (28)oceanna: Thank you for passing along the related thread. Poor little baby! I was very lucky with all my three babies that they did not have these problems--probably because I breastfed and delayed introduction on solids, esp. dairy which is where my problems were. I was able to clear my food allergies through NAET, when about 5-years ago I suddenly became sensitized to many foods, and today eat whatever I want. I think I cleared my DD also through NAET, but with environmental/chemical sensitivies we have not had much success. We've been dealing with this for over 2-years now and have tried many different things so while my goal is still to uncover and correct the root of the problem we found it was like layers of an onion, you peel one away only to find another. It's been a long road for DD and she gets very discouraged, esp. when I alter her diet too much and with little improvement. My DH and I did look at the food intolerances for the different races and blood types and found it quite fascinating, though going that route would be a last resort which we could possibly try over the summer. Right now she is on homeopathy, which aggravates her condition in the short term, so I don't want to change too many things at once. With my DD she has more scabby patches from scratching in various stages of healing. Probably the worst trigger though are her shin guards--she plays competitive soccer and is in spring season. I do not have the heart to pull her out so can relate to the comments about exercise induced asthma. In fact, DD has a few girls on her team with that condition and always tells me she is glad she only has eczema as at least she does not have to sit out due to an asthmatic attack in a game. On the bedding front, I was able to find some bedding in both Pottery Barn Kids and PB teen which is Oeko-tex certified plus some all cotton duvet inserts (both summer and winter weights) from Cuddledown, depending on if she prefers a duvet or quilt. I plan to show it to her this weekend and am crossing my fingers she'll find something she likes....See MoreDo you have eczema?
Comments (28)debn, we wondered about that but I think that's been ruled out. The gloves produced sweaty hands that led to this. He hasn't worn latex/vinyl gloves since last November and still has this "thing" on his hands. He'd worn gloves on and off for small projects and never had a problem. It was only when he started wearing them for hours at a time when the skin problem started. His hands look so bad that he can't hand a card to a merchant without people staring at his hands. People obviously are wondering what's wrong with his hands. If I weren't his mother I wouldn't want him touching anything I had to handle. His hands are raw, scabby, blistered, peeling and look like they're rotting. This condition is causing him to become very depressed, not just because of the discomfort, but because of the impact it's had on his dealing with other people both at work and at social functions. I'm praying that his Dr can come up with a method of controlling this other than steroids. He can't stay on steroids for the rest of his life....See MoreAnyone ever got sick from kitchen remodeling--literally?
Comments (18)Fallingwaters, the biggest problem is dust -- much more than bacteria, but would it help to delay things a bit? If he needs to be in the house, do what you can to barricade the area, turn off the AC until the dust settles and then use a super cleaning filter for a short while, then change it. Sounds like he should be able to avoid the work zone outdoors and you can shed shoes, work clothes and do a hand washing anytime you or someone else comes indoors. May not be as bad as you think -- but check with the doctor if you are concerned. I forgot about my dog (mostly) and me getting sick from a gas leak when the appliances were first put in. The range top was fine, but the connection had a small leak and the regulator had to be replaced and the connection cleaned up. Our lab was throwing up and not eating -- I was getting really worried about her when we found out what was wrong. It was worse for her because she is smaller an because the natural gas itself is heavier than air and settles closer to the ground. The odorant would rise, but it was noticed mainly when we opened a drawer and they told us it was just the tiny bit that you might get when turning on the burners getting trapped in the drawer and nothing to worry about at first....See Moresheilajoyce_gw
