Anyone on here ever grow River Birch trees from seed?
Comments (8)I too love birches and would love a little wood of them. I would plant Scottish bluebells under them en mass. A seed trading friend of mine in California sent me three bags of birch seeds (besides the ones I got myself from the little tree at Lowe's). They are European Birch, White American Paper Birch and one other that I cannot recall off hand. I read that they had to be fresh or they wouldn't grow, so I didn't planted them. But now, I think I will go ahead and try sprouting them. What have I got to lose? I think if I put them in very soggy paper towels and stick them in plastic bags, they should sprout, as that is where they sprout best in their natural environment - on the banks of brooks and rivers where it is very wet. Worth a try. Eduarda, I appreciate your input. Muito Obrigada! ~Annie...See MoreHas anyone ever received a credit from Kraftmaid?
Comments (7)We purchased our Kraftmaid cabs through Lowes and didn't experience anything resembling what you're going through. A couple of days after we placed our order, the Kraftmaid rep called to let us know that our cabs were going into production. She gave us an approximate delivery date and told us that they would call when they were ready for delivery. She left her name and number w/ extension which I didn't even ask for. When our cabs were ready(less than 3 weeks later) she called to set up delivery. We set up delivery for that Wednesday morning. The morning of the delivery, the delivery guys called to let us know they were on their way. They must have been just getting off the highway, because they were at my house ten minutes later. They carried all 39 boxes up my front steps and into my great room. I had only a 9" pullout that was out of square, an end panel with a scratch, and 2 doors with pooled staining/finish problems. 1 of the doors was real nitpicky, only visible from a certain angle. I went to my Lowe's KD and she ordered replacements without ever needing to come out and look at them. Again Kraftmaid called a couple of days later, to let me know my pieces were in production, etc. They arrived a few weeks later in tip top condition. We're very happy with our Kraftmaid purchase. We got Cherry Lynchburg Mission in the Honey Spice finish. I've heard their glazed finishes can be a bit messy, but I'm confused about the shelves that were coming apart. Kraftmaid shelves are separate items that are adjustable, not fixed. How were they coming apart?...See MoreMulberries? I got sick eating them.......
Comments (15)Thanks for all the responses. I am fine now. I know it was the berries. They all came up like they went down. Yikes, never thought about bugs. Couldn't see any and I did look at them before I ate them. It was a beautiful morning. I had to run to the store, when I came back I had a second cup of coffee and went out front to plant some daylilies. The front of my house faces West so I always try to work there before the sun creeps over the roof. I think it was around 10am when I started working. Breezy morning, felt great. I noticed the tree laden with berries and started picking a few while I worked. The whole time lasted no more than 45 minutes. Got the lilies planted, took some pics of beautiful Amaryllis blooms and I was suddenly hit with severe dizziness. Truly felt like I was given some sort of drug. I know it was the berries, nothing else. I was not overheated. I was nervous about being alone and it seemed none of my neighbors were home either. I kept the phone in my hand. Luckily, it finally passed. Was sick the entire day and night but felt fine in the morning. I have Googled the berries and see they have a toxic sap and can cause digestive upset if eater unripe. I did eat a few that were bitter, and guess they were not ripe. Who knows, but another thought I have is why they have not been eaten by the birds. I have tons of birds on my property. They feast on my Loquats yet have't touched the Mulberries. Maybe they know something! Anyway, I am fine and want to thank everyone for their thoughts. Very helpful and I will never go near a Mulberry again. If you haven't eaten them, be cautious until you are sure they won't bother you. I probably should have just tried a few and not eaten so many on basically an empty stomach. They weren't even tasty. Very bland, plain taste. Comments (12)Thanks all that commeted so far! This reno wouldnt happen for another few years atleast. I guess I should have been more clear, that this wouldn't be all that I would change in the grand scheme. I’d be changing the cabinets out and taking out that L shaped island completely (there used to be a wall there). The fridge would go next to the range. Where the current fridge is, I’d like to do a smaller rolling island that can be tucked under the cabinet, creating more open floor space. The future sink wall would get a new window that would look out to my backyard and the dishwasher would go next to it on the same wall. The current window looks out to my neighbor and driveway which I don’t enjoy looking at. That’s why I was thinking of trying to salvage the frame/trim for the range hood eventually. Maybe tile it or paint it as part of the backsplash. The former owner (who did a half ass job with the kitchen and bath because they rented it out) used low end-everything and we are slowly re-doing everything, as its starting to fall apart 10 years later. Thankfully they left the oringinal floors, trim and plaster walls intact. Thanks again everyone :)...See Moresegbrown
