Natalie was murdered (supposedly) in Aruba, not the U.S.

If the U.S. had any authority in that case they would have done something 5 years ago.

Yes, what you are missing is the fact that Ms. Halloway is/was a US citizen and due to that fact the US can choose to intervene and/or work with the foreign investigators. The other country can refuse to allow intervention if they so choose so but this case is not worth starting a war over. Lots of Americans "go missing" when traveling to other countries. The US places various importance on various US citizens and look at each case individually. It is sad that the US officials considered Natalie not so very important. Had she been a vacationing congressman or something, more importance would have been given to the case.

Hmmm. According to this article he has an arrest warrant issued in the US - on charges of extortion and wire fraud.

The U.S. has no jurisdiction in Aruba. If he is prosecuted for her murder, it would be up to them to do it.

There is no reason for the United States to intervene or get involved.

Seems to me they already refused to allow any interferance 5 years ago when she first went missing.

It's true that the US doesn't have the legal authority in Aruba and it's doubtful that the brief sentence about the US getting involved was meant to imply it. However, I suspect and would hope that the US (or any other country in the same circumstances) would push for truth and closure in the Natalee Holloway disappearce "if" the opportunity arises. That case was mishandled by Aruba from the git go.

This second young womans murder (on the 5th year anniversary of Natalee's disappearance) may be van der Sloot's undoing. Maybe if things had been handled and investigated properly five years ago another young woman would not have died. And really...that's the main point of discussion about the latest news...a murderer brought to justice.

That is not true. Not true at all.

The FBI immediately got involved and were allowed to work with Aruban investigators in conducting an extensive search and follow-up.

I do think there was a cover-up in the Aruba incident. Wealthy kids often get a pass when they break the law or there is a bribe or a favor to officials.

There are "Facebook style" photos of Van der sloot and his "posse" drinking, partying and flashing gang signs on the internet. He was not a "good kid" from a nice family.

I'm willing to bet there have been more murders. Serial killers often confess to more unsolved murders after they are caught although this kid seems so pompous I don't think he will confess but there may be evidence from other crimes of missing persons or murders that will point to him as the prime suspect. This would all be moot if he gets sentenced to life in prion in Peru. No use wasting time on other convictions if he is never getting out.
