breaking in my shoes, ouch!

My interview is June 14-15 and I am trying to break in my dress shoes. What do you use to protect the back of your heel from blisters? I normally just use band-aids but they are not think enough for the hard edge to the Clark brand dress shoes I bought a while back. At least I am getting a head start on breaking them in, I have a little over a week, lol.

I never 'break in' shoes... I get ones that fit from day one.

Janie, try wearing some socks with them around the house.
For the interview if they still bother you, change your shoes in the car when you get there, and walk in with a smile :)

Use gloves to use the tools, such as cardboard folded into tongs, newspaper, old carpet, which you then capture the plant, avoiding direct contact and saving the gloves for another day. Once gloves have touched nearly any Opuntia cactus, the glochids have lodged into the gloves and the gloves are now compromised.

Hey Pirate Girl, I was going to suggest the Glue also.. someone (who studies Opuntias) recently told me how she uses gauze and elmers glue to get them out. I personally use a pair of tweezers or an old triple blade disposable razor... not too sharp to cut me but sharp enough to pull them out. Sorry, I'm sure by now you've gotten rid of them. Unless you keep fussing with it! I had a small type that filled an 8 inch pot and hung over the sites. I rescued it from a neighbor who said they were leaving it out to freeze as they hated it... I took it and was sorry. I put it on a window sill in the living room and all winter long I kept getting the glochids all over me! Couldn't figure out how... Then I made the mistake of opening the window one nice breezy day and that was it! it went out side and never came back in again. The Glochids Blew all over the place! The way I kept getting them was solved one day when I noticed this reddish brown dusty looking stuff on my cats tail... Closer inspection revealed them to be TONS of Glochids! Seemed the cat enjoyed rubbing against it! Be careful where you put yours!

There was a good thread on this called "If Miele breaks the budget...". I'm posting what Mindstorm said because I can't say it any better. She loved her Bosch 700 but thought it wasn't on the market. However, you might be able to get it on eBay or Craigs List. From Mindstorm: I have a Bosch oven. My two finalists were the Miele Novotronic and the Bosch 700. I eventually chose the Bosch for a variety of reasons (price difference between those two was small at the time - perhaps about $200 if that). I absolutely ADORE my Bosch oven - just I as I know I would have the Miele (I've cooked with them and really like them). My oven is dead-on precise in temperature, very responsive, very even and I love its convection functions. BUT that was then. If I were in those shoes today I would not get a Bosch on the market today; I would suck up the couple misgivings I had about the Miele 27" and go with it. I wouldn't bother with ELectroluxs and GEs and KAs and whatever else. Here's the reason - I have my Bosch installed undercounter also. The Bosch 700 ovens (the one I have that is no longer on the market so probably not an option for you) as well as the 27" Mieles are about 24" TALL. That means that you can install it just under teh counters about 6" above the bottom of the cabinet. That 6" makes a world of difference - you can get a drawer under the oven and furthermore, you won't be kneeling on the floor to get things in and out of it. Here's a link to a picture of mine - hopefully you can see what I mean. Its a very practical 5 or 6"! Now the new Bosch as well as all these others are full 30" tall ovens and personally I think they are all dreadfully awkward for an under cabinet installation. Only the Miele 27" has retained these sensible dimensions so if I may be so bold, I'd say to you that your options for an UC installation are - well, the Miele 27" w/ self-clean or the Miele 27" w/o self-clean ;-)

Ick..I just removed the polish on my toes. I did the pedicure the day before I was stupid...LOL And it was a french tip so I could see the bruise...but ugh....it's really bluish green and the other is nice and pink like it should be. I'm putting on pink polish now. LOL Oh I know the first few nights I had two bandaids on it. And maybe the third night I stuck on a pedicure bootie..LOL I wonder if it will heal faster for you though since the nail is basically gone. I think that was the problem with mine, the nail was still "attached" for the most part. I soaked it alot and let it bake in the sun. LOL As much as it would make me squimish..I'd take some "cleaned" manicure scissors and snip it off if I was in your place.

Use the inserts that stick to the back edge of the shoe. I find them at shoe stores. Or use a calous pad on your heel or shoe.

I try to find shoes that work right off the bat too. I don't wear high heels enough to toughen the back side of my foot. Even the well fitting shoes can annoy me just because I'm not used to walking like that.

Wish I could be as lucky as you.

I have to balance one wide foot, narrow heels, need for "extra shock absorption", and the need for something that is acceptable for job interviews. Oh, and I cannot wear heels of more than 1 inch at most so that also drastically limits my options.

there are special blister bandages you find them with the other bandaids they are great they are very cushioned and have medication in them to help protect the skin from abrasions. Very worth having around, I keep a couple in my purse at all times. Also Dr.Scholls makes this moleskin stuff you can cut to fit in the back of your shoes it sticks in place to help cushion.

You should not have to break in shoes. If you do they don't fit. They need to feel right the day you buy them.
I've even wore shoes for 2 weeks and had no pain then after 2 weeks they killed me!

I have bought from shoe store, a shoe stretch. It's a liquid you squirt in the shoe and let it dry with you feet in the shoe.

Even though you buy shoes to fit, which all normal people do, there are times when shoes need a little help :o)

I have had that problem occasionally Janie and what I have always done is "break the back" of the shoe. I take my thumbs and push the back (heel of the shoe) towards the inside of the shoe...almost until it lays flat. It will give a bit and give you more room. In addition, I'll wear a bandaid across my heel just in case. Works for me!

Thanks all, I will try these ideas and let you know. I wore them for about 3 hours today with socks, including around the office, lol.

Linda, it is with the Univ of MO. They have a growing Bachelor of Health Sciences program.
