Pedicure for dummies... I have a ???

I have once again talked myself into trying a pedicure. But, last night, I got 2 mosquito bites on the top of my foot. I'm not supposed to get a pedicure if there is any open wound, right? there are two small spots. EVERY time I talk myself into getting a pedicure, there is a story on the news or in the paper about someone getting a disgusting rash that they haven't been able to get rid of for 9 months.. or I have a cut or something.

So, 2 days ago, I decided to give it another try, and then I get the bites.! LOL

I hate getting mosquito bites on my feet. If they are really bad out I wear my rubber boots just to avoid skeeter bites on the foot.

Judy - I have attached a link to CNET. It has an explanation of how and what you need to download. The download is for software that you purchase - but you can use it in DEMO mode for seven days without purchasing. It limits your record time to one hour segments, unless you purchase it. It might get you by if the segment is under an hour. I would say the very easiest way would be to put a tape recorder in front of your computer speakers and record it that way. If you don't have a tape recorder - you could check into borrowing one - often Library's have them to lend.

David -- I'm sorry for the delay in my response -- I thought I had posted earlier but I must have forgotten to send what I wrote after viewing it. .... thank you so much for the generosity of your time and shared expertise. As it happens it's so hard for me to figure out questions to pose coming from so far away understanding-wise. I'm actually a little confused by your very first comment. I'd like to try to think through it and would appreciate someone correcting my reasoning if you're willing: Isn't the opposite of low voltage not-low voltage? That is, normal voltage? So would normal voltage (that would be 110V, right?) be a synonym for direct wire system? Thus you can't have a direct-wired low voltage system? Please forgive me for such dim understanding ... is this right? Electricity comes to the pole outside of the house at some high voltage. A transformer at the pole steps it down to 240V and then somewhere, maybe the electrical box, it gets split to 110V which is what is used to run all the lamps in the house, basically everything but your ovens. So that's "wired" and that's 'normal' voltage. Then 'low' voltage would have to be further stepped down -- that's what those transformer boxes everyone talks about sticking in their cabinets or in the basement do, right? They must be like the big cylinder out on the pole stepping down electricity from the high tension wires, they must step electricity down from 110V to something lower to run the LED lights.... Am I understanding that right please? Because otherwise I can't fathom this statement: "you are looking at a direct wire system not low voltage". So am I right about this: I read somewhere long ago that those little transformer boxes which are always hot, are always on - that's why they're hot. So they're always on, always drawing current, always setting up electrical fields inside your house, right? ...except now I'm thinking ... these things would always be on if you *plugged them into a plug and then switched them on/off*. So ... if I had one of those switched lamps with a transformer plugged into a wall *it* would always be drawing current through the lamp whether on or off because there was no switch to the outlet. However, if you plugged the lamp into a switched outlet it could turn off the transformer box. Is this right? Because if so then by analogy, the transformers for UCL LEDs could actually be switched and therefore off.... Please if you wouldn't mind following through with this electricity primer, would someone mind telling me if I'm getting this right? I'm asking because this is the reasoning behind my thinking I don't want transformers -- I don't want those things "on" all the time.

"Your misunderstanding what I said and the silly words to later try to "elaborate" suggest clearly that what I described is unfamiliar and new to you. No problem, you learned something. ... Lots of people work in private sector jobs without needing to know or work with the financial and commercial practices that business may be involved with and perhaps that was true for you." Nope. I completely and fully understand variable and semi-variable, as well as fixed. The point I was trying to make, which apparently flew right over your head, is that there is, indeed, a difference between paying a percentage of sales to the suite owner as opposed to paying fixed rent to the suite owner. If I am paying a percentage of my intake each month, it doesn't matter how many hours I work or how much money I bring in, because the ratio remains the same. As long as my portion of that ratio is enough to cover my monthly expenses (home mortgage, utilities, car payment, groceries, etc.), I can work as much or as little as I desire. If I am paying a fixed rental amount each month to the suite owner, it can definitely affect me more. If my monthly rent is $600 but I only work enough to bring in $120, I still have to pay the suite owner $600. This will adversely affect all of my other financial responsibilities. I'm sorry that you can't see that difference. For the record, whether you retain this info or not - our home is owned free and clear, as is my car, and my husband's car. We do pay for utilities each month, and food.

Spanish, there's nothing in Settings with that info. I found iCloud and no option to do anything. Maddie, I've thought about linking the devices but so far no need to.

Kat - funny you would ask. I was just reading an article last night in one of my magazines about pedicures. I want to go get one too and so does DD but this article was talking about how common staph infections are at all these places because they don't sanitize like they are supposed to. I would definitely not go if I had bites especially if they are open from scratching.

I've never had a problem and I've gotten one with a poison oak rash and a recovering broken foot. If the place you go to is clean you shouldn't have any problems. Especially if it is just a bite and not scratched to raw skin. I say go and enjoy it.

Barb, no matter how bad your feet look they have seen worse. I suggest you get a Ped Egg and start using it along with a cream made for feet. I use Gold Bond Foot Cream. Your feet will look better in no time. They will also look much better after a pedicure. If you don't want to go by yourself, grab a friend and go together. Relax and enjoy it.

* Don't get a pedicure if you have cuts or abrasions on your feet or legs. Microorganisms living in footbaths can enter through the skin and cause infection.
* Don't shave, wax or use hair removal creams within a day before getting a pedicure
* Don't get a pedicure if you have bug bites, bruises, scratches, scabs or poison ivy.

I saw something on TV about safe pedicures and it said do not go to places that use the foot baths with the jets because they don't get cleaned properly between clients.

You can bring your own pedicure tools so you'll know they haven't been used on anyone else.

You cen read up on tips here.

Thanks all! I didn't go. It's two bites, that drew blood... so there is raw skin... well, scabbed over now! lol
Dorothy, I saw that too, but i've called EVERY WHERE down here and they ALL use the foot baths... all jetted. ONe lady said "How would it look if I brought out a rubbermaid container? everyone LIKEs the baths." LOL My neighbor and her hubby have gone to this place for a couple years.

Very nice Glenderama....

My feet look like Fred Flinstone's! lol

I get my pedicures at the beauty school and it has the jetted foot baths. While I am getting the polish applied to my toe nails the jets are going with Clorox 2 added to clean water. They do a thorough cleaning with bleach once a week, I think. Maybe it is once a day with bleach.

Linda are you sure it is only Clorox 2? Clorox 2 is a whitener. It is not a germicide. Regular formula Clorox is the only type of Clorox that is a registered disinfectant. Even the scented versions are unregistered. Check the link below.
