We've actually made a great effort to see movies lately. I've seen three of your four. LF will go see the surfing penguin tonight with mommy (mine) while Ed and I go on a date. Spiderman 3: "Each of us is a blend of the two, the film suggests, and which one will guide our lives is the issue." You bet, even my seven year old got that, he commented on it as we left the theater. My boys really enjoyed this movie (action and effects) and I was nonplused by the whole affair. Mostly, with the plethora of characters, none of them really gets to flesh out as well as it could. I would've really liked to have seen more of the Sandman or Venom stories. Great characters, but just sorta jumped in both feet first. Shrek 3 Good, but not as good as 1 (but then they never are). Normally, I enjoy the tie-ins between music and allusions, but I either didn't get them this time, or they did not show up in this movie. I actually disliked the subplot on fatherhood. Since it is purely a kid movie, it seemed out of place and his anxiety about it, took away from the frivolity of the movie. I did like their Merlin and overall, a fun movie and ended upbeat. Pirates of the Caribean: I loved it. There is absolutely NO plotline to follow... kind of like summer should be, fun without a destination. Loved Barbosa and Jack Sparrow's dad (Keith Richards) better than Sparrow this time. His character goes off on an odd tangent, but then, so does the movie. Enjoyable summerfare, I agree.

pidge, I started another thread with info regarding sleep apnea and CPAP. Seems like I hijacked your movie season thread. LOL Like your friend, I feel the CPAP device is a real pain in the yang but it beats having a stroke or heart attack during sleep. During my testing in the hospital I stopped breathing 32 times an hour. An apnea episode has to be no breathing for a minimum of 10 seconds. Among other symptoms, many times I would wake up with my head feeling like it was about to explode...SEVERE headache. The sleep doctor said it was due to lack of oxygen. Many sleep apnea sufferers have strokes and heart attacks during sleep due to lack of oxygen. Oh, yeah...I told ya. My fingers don't know when to shut up. Now, I'll go to the new thread. It is boring reading but I hope it can enlighten someone who may suffer from this or have a loved one that may.

RIT - loved your selection of EvonA quotes... I think you would enjoy the Fraulein book... (And yes, it's on Project Gutenberg and also Girlebooks - another free book place to read on-line.) I've been struggling trying to find a classic that I can keep with and enjoy... So far, I've tried "The Longest Journey" by E. M. Forster several times but I must admit defeat with that, much as it pains me as I usually like Forster's books. The search continues... I'm also working on improving my writing professionally speaking, so I've picked up a book by Lee Gutkind, the "godfather of creative nonfiction" which is a collection of award-winning nonfiction articles and am trying to be more of a discerning reader to learn how to write such articles. I've been wanting to do some more writing at work, and have read over and over that to learn good writing, one should do good reading. Taking that to heart. :-) And just finished up a short and beautifully produced nonfiction read called "Plain and Simple" by Sue Bender, Bender is an artist and a therapist who went to live side-by-side with a couple of Amish families to learn more about their life and culture. In doing so, she learned more about herself (sort of thing). I first read it about ten years and it really seemed to resonate with me then. This read not so much, but that's the gamble with something you reread. Not a bad read, but not as en pointe as I had taken it earlier. (Different time of life, one supposes.) I'm also reading a non-fiction called "The Secrets of the Middle-Aged Brain" by Barbara Stauch - fascinating science/medical writing.
