Varieties vary (no pun intended) by vine height, time till tuberization, flowering, and many other traits. I harvest some blues already - they weren't especially tall, but all the spuds were on the small side. I put in four more later, and the plants are growing vigorously and flowering just now. Don't expect to get tubers growing up in the mulch/cover. Most varieties produce stolons only just above the roots. Only some varieties will put out stolons and grow tubers from buried above-ground stems. Watch some Youtube videos - most potato towers are failures in this way.

Yes Val, Lloyd does have a big one... um, compost that is. Got to keep on topic here, so yes, moderators, we are talking about compost and women do like them too. :O) I knew that response to a previous post would come back to haunt me one day Lloyd. Taking photos of the evidence was an OOPS moment. Me bad! It's funny because I actually migrate towards compost piles when I visit other gardens... Folks sometimes think I'm up to no good. They probably fear me taking their compost away, and rightfully so. So you'd better keep that watch dog out when I visit, eh? :O) Idaho, My husband and I get along quite well when it comes to the compost. We have an agreement. He doesn't touch my compost and I don't touch his books - he's a worm of another kind. As long as my compost results in an increase in property value, which it has, and his books stay organized, then we are all good.

I agree, the larger leaves are doomed. Your Aloe is seriously waterlogged and perhaps freeze damaged. Watering at all this time year is risky. What was your lowest temperature? I also noticed the pups look fine. I think I see at least three. As Josh recommends, move the plant to a dry location with a roof. Next to your house under the roof overhang is a good spot. It will help with extreme temperatures because your house is a heat source. I would not remove leaves just yet, and certainly don't mess with the pups right now. You are just going to have to wait and see. Brad
