Popcorn Banned in NYC too?

The mayor of NYC is considering putting a ban on such things as a large popcorn that has 1650 calories ? OMG I didn't need to know the calorie count...takes all the fun out of going..

I think he thinks that he is the mother of all the people, that we are all too stupid to make any decisions that he doesn't agree with. Next he'll ban rich dinners at restaurants and then it'll be happy hour at bars and oh, gosh- how many calories are in a margarita?

I go to maybe one movie a year. If I want to eat a large popcorn, I should be able to. If I'm worried about the calories, I won't order it. And then look at all the candy in the display, that's not exactly healthy eating either, will that be next?

He's going to damage tourism in NYC if he's not careful.

Jim, I posted about that way up topic! I absolutely do not want the government to police salt in cooking!! But I do agree that an awful lot of cooks, especially restaurant chefs, use salt instead of finesse and should learn to appreciate their ingredients more than salting the heck out of everything. I had a "doggie bag" that I rewarmed for dinner. First of all, I can report that the rewarm setting on the Gagg combi-steam is worth the price of admission. But, being in the unusual position of eating restaurant mashed potatoes at home (a first!), I was thinking about why they tasted funky, having been perfectly warmed. It was the salt, out of context. At least the steamed broccoli wasn't salty! I expect it in restaurants, where I'm likely to also be drinking a salty beverage (mineral water or soda). In fact, I try to keep a certain level of salt more than otherwise in my diet so that I can eat out without puffing up. So, no on the regulation. Yes on teaching food pros that there are other flavors besides salt.

I removed all the popcorn ceilings in my entire house with a garden sray tank, water, and a scraper. The process was spaying water and letting it sit, spray more water and when it's really loose scrape it off with a wide scraper. Skim with dry wall mud, sand (should only have to hit it a little with the dry wall sanding paper) prime, and paint. It's hard hard work but makes all the difference in the world. Popcorn ceilings should be illegal. Getting rid of them made my ceilings look a foot higher.

Breezygirl, this does help since one of the reasons my kitchen was going to cost so much was because I wanted to remove the empty soffit and install 36" cabinets with crown molding. Most stores wanted to then remove all the popcorn first in all rooms downstairs telling me they could not patch it up. My most recent quote was in January 2014 and the contractor was going to put a beam to separate the rooms which I did not like as he said he had to remove the popcorn. I prefer no beam and to have just a straight line with the other room having popcorn if it costs too much to remove. I will try to take a picture of my kitchen. I love my tiles and it is helping to see that BM Simply White looks best with my tiles. I am going to put the recessed lights in my living room which is my home office and leave the fixture in the dining room part of the home office. I will then see if that room becomes a mess (has no lights in the ceiling now) before seeing who can patch up my ceilings. I will revisit my kitchen cabinets after the lighting is done downstairs, my wood floors are installed in the other three rooms to close out my insurance claim and my windows and doors downstairs are replaced as the vinyl has cracked and it is cold in the winter time. I really want kitchen cabinets and a counter like Breezygirl. I needed tiles due to little dogs going in and out the sliding door in the kitchen and having a KitchenAid dishwasher that will be 5 years old at the end of October with now poor reviews of a failing pump. I can't afford another insurance claim for my wood floors. I am only using the dishwasher if I am home. I paid a lot for this dishwasher.

Here in California I am feeling guilty - almost the only place in the country that is NOT having extra cold weather - just our normal grey, 50ish degree weather of Feb. Sending wishes that everyone (and their gardens) survives this awful cold spell. I think it must be extra horrible for people in Texas and other places where they are not used to very cold weather - no equipment, no usual procedures or plans for it. I read somewhere that the week before it hit TX it was in the 70s - the pictures people have posted on other posts on here of roses just starting to leaf out and bloom, covered with ice, are so dispiriting. Is it Mayor Bloomberg or His Honor The Food Police?
Are we going to have scales in restaurants?
People need to realize every time someone takes it upon themselves to "BAN" something that all our rights are slowly being whittled away.
P.S. I am not over weight, so this is not some kind of pet peeve for me! I do however think these types of actions are leading us down a VERY slippery slope!

What an idiotic subject these "bans" have become.Do they write down your name so you cant go order a second serving??All this bruha about popcorn and soft drinks,,,we better focus on the big stuff,,,what is WRONG with people? If this country continues on this downward spiral we are going to be told everything we can and cannot do.Better wake up folks,and VOTE this election!!!Our feedom depends on it!
