Do you have a tip out tray under your Orca sink?

Today when my cabinet maker came to put some finishing touches on my cabinets he mentioned that the tip out trays they use will not fit because my sink is too big (Franke Orca). There is not enough clearance between the sink and the drawer front, apparently.

I'm hoping someone with this sink can give me a suggestion for a tray that will work with this sink. I see that rev-a-shelf makes a "slim" tray. I wonder if that would fit?

Thanks for any advice you can offer. :)

Hi,
I have a tip out tray with my Orca. I don't think this is a function of the sink, but instead a function of how much depth you have available in your cabinet. In my case the cabinet is bumped out a few inches for looks, maybe this is why I have enough room?

I have an Orca and a tip out tray, but my cabinet is not a bump out...as mentioned by Andy, it's definitely reliant on your cabinet depth and also where your sink is placed in relation...

I will say that I've had the tray for two years, and have probably used it a total of 5 times. Total waste of $ for us! But YMMV.

I use the left side for washing. I have 2 grids. The bottom one to protect the sink and one on the right side. It's a great sink for multi tasking. For me the grids made the sink. Try looking in ebay for better pricing on the sink and accessories. That's how I got mine. I also purchased the cutting board and the strainer. Through ebay, I had found a kitchen distributor who was no longer going to be selling the Franke line. I lucked out. That was over a year ago.

I personally think the Grohe K4 looks better with the handle turned to the front. The plumber switched the hot/cold at my request. I like it facing forward because if my hands are dirty, I can turn on the faucet with my pinkie. Logically, "cold" is usually left, and "hot" is right. My grandson is the only person to comment on the blue/red lines being incorrect. We plan to use very fine sandpaper and eliminate the lines, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Soap dispenser location: I would suggest taking your bowl or pot, or whatever you might use to wash dishes in, and holding it in the sink under the "location" of the dispenser. (We used 'mock-up' toilet paper rolls to show position of faucet and dispensers)

Fern, Celtic, and Glad, thank you for the additional feedback. Glad, thank you for liking in the old thread. I completely missed it both the first time and in a search before starting this thread. Fern, my drawings show two, too. I'm thinking it's just the design software. Why would they put two separate panels in a 25" cupboard? Hardware will happen! DH votes for one pull in the middle, because of Soaped Up Digit Syndrome (SUDS). Glad, I think I'll order an extra pull and knob, too. I'd much rather have back-ups for down the road, or have to return extras, than have one be defective or destroyed (or have miscalculated) and not be able to get everything done as quickly as possible. Ordering the hardware as soon as I hear back from the company about a finish question... tomorrow, I hope. Whee!

I bought SS holders that have 2 suction cups to attach them to the side of the sink at Target. I only keep a scrubby in mine b/c I use dishcloths instead of sponges. The scrubby in the cleanup sink is for dishes, the one in the prep sink is for lightly cleaning veggies like potatoes & carrots. Here's a pic of the prep sink w/a green scrubby: The scrubby dries quickly in this setup b/c it's in the open & exposed to clean, dry air. IMHO, there's less likely to be an explosion of bacteria growth b/c of this. (I still sanitize it though, just to be safe!)

Most tip out trays are too shallow to hold much of anything without it falling out on opening. We have them in bathroom and find it basically useless except for small tubes of Neosporin and a stray fingernail file and nail clipper or two.

I have a lot of empty space in my tip-out tray (regular sink, not the one mentioned). I've always wondered what to do with the garbage disposal stopper and that tool for the disposal. Those fit perfectly in my tip-out. My sink stopper also fits, but admittedly with the pokey thing sticking out.

I had my tip-out tray added about 2 months after they finished my kitchen. First, we didn't plan for it in the original kitchen because they were expensive when included with the cabinets. We talked to our GC, but the only source for them (other than online) was a contractors-only place that he doesn't get to very often. He finally got there in early November and bought one for us - installed it at the same time as he put in our new front door. I am GLAD I have one.

I have the Orca sink in fireclay. My cabinet had a tip out drawer which I loved, but when they installed the new sink and granite the tip out shelf wouldn't fit, so it was removed. I do miss the tip out for storing my sponge and garbage disposal cover, so I would be interested in hearing if there is an alternative available.

Questions are raised aobut these tip outs quite often. Its been my observation that most people that have them don't like them or don't use them or both. Still it would be just a small extra expense that might have at least marginal utility if there were no drawbacks. But there is a drawback on the placement of the sink.

I'm getting an ORCA, and its my intention to get it as close to the front of the counter as possible, since that minimizes leaning forward. I think that is about 4". Given the granite overhang and the thickness of the cabinet itself, there is essentially no room for a tip out. Pushing the sink back another 2-3" would be a real negative to me.
