Whoops. I forgot to ask if you put it on your trash-pull out if you also had the foot-pedal. I don't want that cabinet to look weird with no hardware but also don't want people yanking on the door when they should use the pedal.

You'll need a handle of some sort on the tip-out. The hinges are spring loaded and strong, so there's a fair amount of resistance when you pull the tip-out open. I recommend one pull in the middle, so that you can pull it open with one hand. If you put two handles, one at either end, you'll need two hands to open it because the hinges at both ends need to be pulled out evenly at the same time. A single handle in the middle will pull evenly on both hinges at the same time.

I put two handles on my tip-out, and I can't get it to open using only one hand. It's a minor nuisance, I wish I'd put only a single handle.

I have handles on mine and they never get in the way. I don't know how much "lip" you have on your counter though.

It would be impossible to open my tip outs if they didn't have hardware on them.

We have a handle on our trash pullout even though we have a pedal opener. We just show the pedal to people so that they know not to use the handle.

Thanks for all the feedback! Sounds like I'll definitely need something on the tip-out. I need to go back and check if it's one panel or two, to decide between 2 knobs or 1 pull. And Brutus, it'll be a laminate counter, so about a 1" lip? Hmmm... maybe I should leave the 2 knobs vs 1 pull decision up to DH...

Alku, thanks for the trash pullout feedback. I suspect more people will fall into the "with handle" camp than "without." Any other opinions out there, aesthetically or from people with trash pullouts?

I thought that sink tip-outs were always the width of the entire sink cabinet. But my cabinet drawings show TWO tip-outs, each with their own cabinet pull. Is there a reason to have two? I think one would be easier and be less cluttered looking (and probably cost less too!).

As to one pull or two knobs on a single tip-out, I would go with the one that's going to make it fastest to open: one pull.

Fern, when I retrofitted mine, the fittings came two to a package! No clue what I did with the extra...

i posted this question in december, but i couldn't find the thread searching just now. my cabinet salesman told me he recommends two pulls vs one centered one so it doesn't poke you if you lean into the sink. i wohld have thought you'd hit the counter before the knobs. i ordered extra pulls and will make a decision when they install this week.

Fern, my drawings show two, too. I'm thinking it's just the design software. Why would they put two separate panels in a 25" cupboard?

Hardware will happen! DH votes for one pull in the middle, because of Soaped Up Digit Syndrome (SUDS). Glad, I think I'll order an extra pull and knob, too. I'd much rather have back-ups for down the road, or have to return extras, than have one be defective or destroyed (or have miscalculated) and not be able to get everything done as quickly as possible.

Ordering the hardware as soon as I hear back from the company about a finish question... tomorrow, I hope. Whee!

I just installed a tip-out last week. I had a spare knob and put it in the center. It works great, and doesn't hit my stomach when I am standing at the sink.

FYI, I ordered my kit from the manufacturer(Merillat). Cost $26 and $2.98 for shipping! If I had asked for a tilt-out when the house was built it probably would have cost me $100.
