Which side do you use to wash dishes in your Orca sink?

I am trying to decide which grid to buy to drain dishes I may hand wash. Originally I thought to drain dishes on the larger side would be better it has a larger area. But now I wonder if I should get the grid for the smaller side since I would need more spaces to wash pans and maybe fill pots so the large side should not have the draining grid? I am also trying to use this to help me figure out which side my soap dispenser should be on. thanks

I wash dishes on the left side of Orca sink where the garbage disposer is located. I use a plastic dishpan and metal drying rack which work well and saved me $200+. I do like how the racks/grids look...but, at this time can't justify that cost.

My dishwasher is on left side of sink and this arrangement also works well for that.

I use the left side for washing. I have 2 grids. The bottom one to protect the sink and one on the right side.

It's a great sink for multi tasking. For me the grids made the sink. Try looking in ebay for better pricing on the sink and accessories. That's how I got mine.

I also purchased the cutting board and the strainer. Through ebay, I had found a kitchen distributor who was no longer going to be selling the Franke line. I lucked out.
That was over a year ago.

One of the reasons to *not* rinse/prewash dishes is if you use an enzyme detergent it needs the food particles to work better. It'll etch glass and stuff if it doesn't have the food particles. I can't explain it well, but it's easy research for a more thorough explanation. Most just recommend scraping the dishes (and really, who wouldn't?!) then into the DW. I haven't had a dishwasher for more than 30 years but I'm starting to miss it. I would get grossed out though when it left stuff on it. When washing by hand and using a good soap it gets clean. Sure, you just put it back in and rewash but it still bugs me. It also bugs me to see people leave dirty dishes in the DW for a week before washing them. Argh! If it takes a week to fill it, you should have a smaller DW or use a top rack only feature. This is what impresses me about the F&P Dish Drawers. And geez, I can wash a few dishes FAR faster than an hour or two for a dishwasher! LOL And when you compare the time to load the dishwasher vs washing, it's pretty close. Time's not a factor. It's the hassle of washing them. I soak my dishes and a quick swish, rinse in HOT water and into the drainer to dry. Putting them away is comparable to time in a DW. Oh, and one thing I found out quickly, the way you load it makes a big difference. You have to learn how the water sprays and make sure it's not blocked for effective washing.

Which faucet did you use with your Franke Orca sink?

I have the chrome Brizo Floriano with the SS France Orca and like them both. What are you looking for in a faucet? What styles do you like and are there any functions you prefer? The floriano is single handle, hard plastic toggle button allows it to stay in spray mode without holding it, the outside of the spray head is metal not plastic, but the spray head is light, not heavy feeling (I would have liked a more solid feel but can also see myself chipping a glass thing or two if I got a heavy one) and it clicks into place rather than using just a weight. Swings side to side a little more easily than I would like. If you don't mind spending the extra money I also really like the Newport Brass pull down, which has a solid metal spray head and I believe is made in the U.S. Neither of those are very modern looking or industrial looking for instance, if that is what you like, and if you describe what you are looking for you might get more recommendations that are a better fit for you rather than a lot you wouldn't be interested in. Do you want pull down, pull out, separate spray head or not, do you care if it had a separate handle or do you want all one piece, Victorian, traditional, modern? :) There are hundreds of faucets out there. I hate to post a photo although I will if you really need one, because the window behind it isn't finished and doesn't make a very pretty picture, yet. :) Sue

Wash cloth with Dawn soap and water. I don't clean dishes with a dish cloth, I use a sponge. The sponge gets tossed in the microwave to disinfect it. My mom tried to be helpful once, did my dishes with the sponge then used it to wipe my counters. She saw my cringe (I swear I was trying to hide it!!!) and since then, she doesn't try to clean my kitchen. Of course you should take what I say with a large grain of kosher salt as I STILL don't know what the heck a tea towel is, despite seeing them referenced in this site all the time! I have dish (wash) cloths and kitchen towels in my kitchen. I've yet to see a tea towel and how it differs/what its purpose is from a kitchen towel. ;)

I do not have an Orca- but I am having similar kitchen design worries as you! It would feel more natural to me to have the dishwasher on the RH side of the sink, because that leaves the space clear of dirty dishes between the sink and the cooker- just in case you have to drain a heavy pan of pasta for example. Then I would stack the dirties from the table over the dishwasher, and fill the DW by standing in front of the RH sink bowl. I would pre-rinse into the RH bowl. I see your concern about the groovey dish drainer being on the RH side in that case. It would be stacked up with dirty dishes!

I wash on the left and have a right hand grid which I just bought and love. I also have the bottom grid which I think is a must.

I also wash on the left. I also think the bottom grid and the right hand grid are essential. It is so nice to have grids made specifically for this sink, even though they are pricey.

Sometimes, if I have a lot of hand washing...lots of large pots or pans, I'll remove the right hand grid and lay a dish towel on the right counter for the clean items. That way I can use the whole sink to splash and wash.

I also wash dishes on the left. Well, mostly I just scrape into the garbage disposal and put the dishes in the dishwasher, which is on the left. I have the bottom grid and the right hand grid, and I absolutely love my Orca and this set up. Even DH, who is not the type to notice such things, commented about how much he loves our new sink and faucet (the ever-popular Kohler Vinnata.)
