Thanks. It will be an 18 wide by 5 ft granite slab on top of a bar height knee wall perpendicular from wall on the end of a cabinet run. No cabinets below. Still working on how close the upper cabinets will be but they will not be over the bar. I was thinking mini pendants in cobalt glass. I had always been told that you want an odd number but one doesn't seem enough and 3 seems too many for only 5 feet. I am going to try the trick I read here on houzz to put balloons on strings taped to the ceiling to determine size and height of pendants to see if I can decide. Any other comments/suggestions are welcome.

Go with 3, unless the 24" pendants cast a very bright/wide light. Spaced correctly, I think 3 would look more balanced on an island spanning 10', with little liklihood of casting shadows. Try suspending cut up boxes over your island to better visualize 2 vs. 3 lights.

It depends what they are made of? Glass, Metal or something else? If they are a heavier looking light you definitely should go with something smaller.

Thank you! Re: Entry door and outdoor sconce--The door is purchased.... I get why you both tozmo1 and maureen picked a door with lights in the top portion and not below. Or all glass like we have in our other door as pictured above. We did kind of go mid century for the door when the rest of the house is a Dutch Colonial.... oops. We wanted a lot of light as in the door for the other side of the house but without a screen door we wanted a bit more privacy. This is the outdoor light I found yesterday that I am leaning toward. It is more bronze than copper but I like that it echoes the rectangles. What do you think? I should have been clear: the door and lamp is going on this exterior.
