Q: Is it possible to revive a thread that dropped off the forum?

I just missed saving a thread by 2 hours! Darn.

It was titled: Corner Sink...advice and or rules?

It contained a lot of good info & pictures. I stumbled onto it again when I clicked on jt562's thread titled:

Anyone with granite up to their window?

The 'Corner Sink' thread was linked in the first reply by Buehl, but I don't know how long it will be available. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible to revive an old thread?

I have it!!! I saved it to a word file...send me your email and I'll send it to you tonight! I knew I should have bumped it a few days ago (sorry)!!!!

Sometimes you can find a thread doing a Google search. Then, click the "cached" button. I just did this and yes...it was there!

I don't know how long it'll be available via cache, but it's there right now.

While I think that the "FAQ" as outlined by swanoir was presented tongue in cheek ('the humus'), many of the subsequent comments and/or links to threads that could/should be included in a FAQ were presented in a more serious tone. And maybe they do make sense as a foundation to a real LD forum FAQ. But I've also sensed something else in these comments that may contribute to the apparent lack of communication between new posters seeking advice and those that regularly frequent this forum and offer it. And that is that the long checklist provided by Miss R must be (or should be) answered in detail before posting. Well, of course not! But it is definitely something worth reviewing and giving some thought to. This checklist, or something very similar, is what most designers utilize when first meeting with a prospective client. It gives them a feeling for what the client wants to do with the property, how they intend to use it, what they hope to get out of it and how much effort (time/$$) are they are intending to put into it. Hopefully, reviewing an outline or checklist such as this could help to refine and focus some of those blank slate questions and even educate those new posters totally unfamiliar with the process the degree of complexity, the number of variables and exactly what is involved in the formulation of a landscape design. Even DIY landscape texts intended for the homeowner with no previous design or landscaping experience offer similar checklists to get one started thinking about the process. Obviously, this is overkill for those questions that are more issue-specific, but I think very appropriate for those that are much broader and far less focused.

Kadie, I am not sure even now completely why this issue occurs. There has been debate about the possibility of it being a Boron deficiency, over or lack of watering? I have had it happen to both grafted and seed grown plants. The one thing I do find is that the plants that had produced blooms almost to maturity and subsequently aborted them. Now, produce full blooms. On occasion a few really small buds will fall off. With them, I have put it down to the plant thinning these out itself. One factor that had been mentioned to me a few years back, was to make sure that I do not over water my plants when in bloom. Going to do some more grafting of a few of my favorites onto a nice root stock. Marie got me started on grafting and the few I tried are starting to do quite well, although relatively small now. Tried on some seedlings as practice material. Always have more of these than I need. Rick

So ... you're looking to give your plants 10-12 hours of sunlight ... or fluorescent light or LED light ... per day. I keep my plants blooming with a combination of window light and fluorescent light. You can use cheap desk-lamps with CFL or LED bulbs. The light source (and/or window) should be no more than 1 foot away from your plants. P.S. To start a new thread, select the appropriate discussion category (in this case, African Violets) and start a new question/comment ... Desk-lamp CFL bulb

Hmmm...reunion in New York. I could handle that, Pops could go to buddy up with the guy stuff and I'd swim at pool, get my hair done (maybe nails too), do a bit of shopping, check in and see what going on now and then and in down time I'd shop shop shop. I'd have a great time. LOL. I actually don't enjoy spending the day/evening with a bunch of people I don't know and have nothing in common with. I deal with people all the time, the last thing I want to do on my 'me' time is deal with more. I do do the family stuff I'd rather not when I have to, but I have no trouble excusing myself and doing my own thing after I get bored to pieces surrounded by people expecting me to make small talk. The DH does not mind, we enjoy the actual outing and getting away together, it's just the 'social hour' I back out on. Myfam, SIL does indeed seem to be the one with the problem and a bundle of jealous crap. I kinda 'get it' to a point, she does not have her husband home all the time and does not want to share when he is. Too bad. Childish to expect to have him all to herself the entire time. Of course he wants to see his mother and siblings. You'd think one dinner with all together would not cramp her so much. She sounds like a greedy one. I spend time with my DIL and even my ex DIL at times DS is not around. I call/email/text with the ladies, we have the occassional lunch, blah blah. I like the ladies above and beyond their connection to my DS. If I'm somewhere and I see something I think either lady would like, I pick it up for them. I really don't feel a need to buy for both just because I bought something for one...but both ladies get gifts and little treats, just not always at same time. I doubt my ladies compare notes to see what and if I've been up to. The other Ds's GF gets the same attention. This lady is a bit different. We get along, I like her, I respect my son loves her, but there is just not the closeness with this one as with DIL and exDIL. She does not get left out though. She gets the same treats and stuff everybody else does. We just don't do much of the lunches out and shopping blah blah together. It's not a snub, we just don't feel a need to hang together. She does come to family stuff, is always welcome and she knows we care about her...it's just we likely will never have a close relationship. She has a close one with her mother though. Those two lunch, shop, gossip blah blah. I think it's just a matter of we don't really have a lot in common and she'd rather spend her 'me' time with her own family. Which is fine and understandable. Quick question. Does your mom reach out to just the DIL minus Brother occassionally? Maybe drive over once in a while and see just SIL and the kids when Brother is not home? Phone calls to keep up with the DIL/kids on their routine daily lifes? I will assume yes, but if not a bit of just the two ladies one on one attention might ease the jealous notion SIL has going on. Your poor mom, carrying for an elderly too. That is a true labor of love. Caretaking for the elder family members is not an easy thing to do. And as the person gets more and more dependent they are not always real pleasant. It's hard on these older people to find their independence slipping away and to have to have someone else do for them and/or assist them in what they use to do all by themselves. I cared for my grandfather in his final year with alzheimers. One of the hardest and most heart tearing things I've ever had to do. He would say and do things that were so hard to deal with, but I had loved the man my whole life and he had cared for me ...it was my turn to thank him for all his years of taking care of me by me now taking care of him , no matter how hard it was or how much it hurt. Don't know the situation with your mom and the person she is now having to be care giver for, but I know it's not an easy thing to do and I wish your mom the strength and love to get through it. In the end she'll be glad she did and that she was able to do it. Give Mom another hug, she'll need lots of them.

Yes, I thought I was successful in bumping it up to the top because my post showed at the bottom of the thread.

However, when I went to the beginning of the Kitchen Forum to see how it looked, IT WASN'T THERE!! So now I'm totally confused.

Maybe old threads are available (for how long?) by using the Search feature, but I wanted it TO APPEAR IN THE 67 PAGES so it would be available for those of us who browse over the subject lines.

BTW, how do you insert a thread into your Message?
And, if the thread you insert eventually drops off the "67 pages," how long can it still be accessed? Does anyone know?

Another way to access old threads is an internet archive called the "Wayback Machine," linked below. You can find Gardenweb threads dating as far back as 2001 on this archive, and also archives of many many other interesting sites -- it's an amazing resource and not very well-known.

Sorry to contradict my previous post: The Wayback Machine Gardenweb links no longer seem to work. You can see the titles of the threads but all the ones I clicked on no longer link to anything...[sigh]...it was an amazing resource.

Oh, to insert a link in a thread, there are two ways:

If you only have one, the easiest way is to use the "Optional Link URL" and "Name of Link" boxes. If you look below the "Post a Follow-up" Message box you will see the boxes. Note: If you are starting a NEW thread, those boxes don't show up until you "Preview" the message...you can then fill them in.

If you have more than one or you want to embed it in your message, use the following BUT replace the square brackets ([ and ]) with angle brackets ():

[a href= http://www.XXX]Description[/a]

Replace the http://www.XXX with the URL you want to link to
Replace Description with the text you want displayed

To produce this link to Lands' End, I inserted the following where the words "Land's End" appear:

[a href= http://www.landsend.com/]Lands' End[/a]

Remembering to replace the [ with

Thanks for responding and for the instructions on inserting a link. I've kept a copy (in Word) for future reference.

Amazing how we can add to the "Corner Sink" thread, and yet not have it show up at the beginning of the Kitchen Forum.

Anyone else have an answer for this?

I doubt you can bump a post that's already fallen off the forum. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Regarding why the updated thread doesn't show at the top:

How did you get back to check that? It depends on how you do it whether you will see the revised page. Just using the "Back" button to go back to the main forum page won't do it. And I think even doing a "Reload" on it won't. You need to get out of the forum and come back in I think.

I used the Search feature and entered "Corner Sink". In fact, I just did it again and it was the first thread to come up on the search: "Corner Sink ... advice and and/or rules?"

Try it yourself. The last two posts (Dec 12) are by Buehl and me. The one before our's was on Oct 14 (I think).

As I said above, Buehl linked the "Corner Sink" thread to a reply she posted on Dec 11 ... I saw that post and clicked on her link ... thought it was a good thread and bumped it ... got the usual confirmation (I think) ... clicked on the "return to Kitchen Forum" to see what my post looked like, BUT IT WASN'T THERE! ... I did a search for "Corner Sink" and found it ... clicked on it and it showed my post (and Buehl's) but of course it didn't show up at the top.

Since all of this happened today (and my post was just 2 hours after the thread probably dropped off), maybe by tomorrow it will no longer be available ??

Disappointing news...I just did a search for the thread in question and it no longer comes up in the hit list. It looks like it did drop off into oblivion after all! :-(
