Here's my story: rehabbing a 1917 shingle style family house in the woods of Cape Cod. The kitchen will be arts & crafts inspired.

Question: How not to make it gloomy given these factors: west side of house with roof overhang, fabulous wood cypress ceiling, wood floors and I want matte Pietro del Cardoso granite or soapstonefor counters

Facts to go along with (hopefully attached photos):

Want shaker cabs in a not -too -dark wood. Photo show Shaker FO cabs in lighter and darker woods but I like the cherry wood on the small sample.

The Motawi bird tile is my big hit ($$ also) and will have creamy field tiles along backsplash. There will be black appliances with a SS refrig.

Photos show two counter options: kiwi flecked granite and the greyish black.

Challenge: Will the grey/black counters make it too dark? Am planning on investing in s good lighting consult but concerned about the gloomy factor.

p.s. light fixture (tho very cool) will not be in the kitchen

If pix dont load I will be a grinch.

ho ho ho
