blue pearl granite hard on the eyes? With white Silgranite sink?
Comments (18)I have had Blue Pearl granite in my kitchen for about 5 years and I absolutely love it. My kitchen is sunny, and the ever-changing features of this granite continually amaze me at different times of day and in various weather conditions. It looks different on cloudy days than it does when the sun is bright. Sometimes there are little fiery copper-ish specks in it that you normally don't see. On some days the blue leaps out at you while on other days it looks more gray-ish. It's beautiful, and I love it even more today than I did when I first got it. We have a stainless steel sink, which looks good with it, btw. I have a set of blue Le Crueset cookware, with matching blue utensil crocks, sugar bowl, tea kettle, spoon rest, etc, that look really striking with the Blue Pearl granite. One other great thing about this granite is that it doesn't show waterspots or spills. I have to remind myself to wipe the counters, because the busy-ness of the flecks kinda camouflages crumbs and little food spills that occur while cooking. I'm not sure I'd want Blue Pearl in a kitchen that DIDN'T get a lot of light, because you'd miss a lot of the beauty that comes out in it as sunlight plays across the surface. I do a lot of cooking, and I have yet to become so mesmerized by the granite that I've burned the soup, so I say "Go for it!"...See MoreKashmir White Granite-- Hard to Maintain?
Comments (8)We have Kashmir White in laundry & master bath and it's "cousin" River White on the island. The only issues we have had are oil based--I didn't know that rolling out pie dough would cause a big pie shaped darker area.(I did roll out 10 crusts in a row in the same spot.) On the bright side, no one but me noticed the spot & it's been 3 months now and it's nearly undetectable. I could have applied a poultice, but I didn't have the time to do the research on it. So basically, as long as you don't roll out your pie dough directly on the stone or leave something dripping with oil on the counter, you should be fine. I have heard that red wine, Kool-Aid, cherry juice (basically anything colored-especially the reds) can stain any light counter tops if allowed to sit--oil can too. So a good rule of thumb would also be to wipe up any spills promptly and definitely don't let any spills sit overnight. Overall, we are really happy with our Kashmir White & River White countertops--it just would have been nice to have a better heads up on how to care for it. Hope this helps!...See MoreWhite kitchens: how hard to keep clean?
Comments (16)As a boomer who's had white kitchens for most of my adult life, I don't have much basis for comparison. However, the difference in my attitude about keeping a white kitchen clean has changed dramatically since I got introduced to my new BFF: Her name's Magic Eraser! What an amazing little helper. IMHO, that little sponge has managed to elevate spot cleaning white cabs, moldings, backsplashes, etc. from a boring, functional task to a work of art. Okay. Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but now that I've got my ME, I'll never go back! lol...See MoreGreen or White kitchen, hard decision.
Comments (48)I think all the green kitchens are really beautiful. That said, they are the current trend of the day, and as a trend, they are much more likely to "age" quickly. I think in 5 years, a lot of people may be regretting their green kitchens.... Of course, the old adage "get what you love". But i always caveat that by noting that the things we love can't help but be influenced by trends. Our preferences and trends are highly intertwined with each other, and i don't think you can say "do what you love" without thinking about trends. Also, i agree with a comment above that you need to make sure this green kitchen fits with the rest of your house. I think if the rest of your house is a middle of the road ranch home that hasn't been updated much in 20 years, and wasn't particularly thoughtfully decorated to begin with, a green kitchen can end up looking like an awkward holdover from 1984 instead of bringing the house into 2018. But i repeat: i do love all those green kitchens that everyone is posting!...See Morembw1
