I have a white Americast Lakeland sink. I am also on a tight budget and was working with existing cabinets, so this was as close to the white farm sink look as I could get. It does scratch fairly easily, so you should definitely get the bottom rack. And wiping it with Clorox seems to get any stains out of the scratches, making them unnoticeable.

That said, I don't know how long this sink is going to last me. For that reason, I did it as a drop-in even though I have granite counters. I figure I might have to replace it in a few years. But it's a pretty sink for as inexpensive as it is. I'm sure a SS sink would have been a lot easier to take care of. But I don't care for how they look.

My friend got an Americast sink a few years ago. She hates it. The entire bottom is scratched up. She's replacing with a stainless steel sink as we speak.

We put the same sink, Americast Lakeland, in a rental house we remodeled. Tenants have been there 1 year and the high gloss finish on the bottom of the sink is completely worn off, looks terrible.

Also, DH easily chipped the "porcelain" around the faucet hole when he was installing the single hole faucet -- had to use the top plate to hide it. Would never buy this sink again.

I have to add my voice to the "no" votes on Americast. I have a 10-year-old Americast kitchen sink. It has chipped and stained easily and has not been at all durable. I also have Americast sinks in the master bath which have been fine, but we really don't use our bathroom sinks very hard. I bought a stainless kitchen sink for our new house.

hmm...sounds like I shouldn't really look into this sink. I don't want to put any $ into something for the short term... perhaps I search or post for recommendations on relativiely inexpensive SS steel sinks- 31" wide; 9" depth with a drain in a corner.. I could live with that.

I have what I "think" is a white Americast sink. I chose it 2yrs ago and thought it was so pretty. It's now scratched terribly. The bottom wipes out for the most part so that the scratches just look like little "etches" but the top of the sink is scratched from us laying a pizza stone across it. Just gently leaning the stonewear against the side for rinsing can scratch the surface. It's really frustrating. I loved it at first...but it's not lasting at all.

Deb--look at the stainless sinks at Galaxy Tool Supply (many, many posts here about them). They are very nice ss sinks at a great price!

Another vote for getting a stainless sink at Galaxy Tool Supply here! We did a low budget remodel over the summer that included the Galaxy sink and we love it! It even comes with a stainless bottom grid and like houscrzy says -- at a great price. Many GW'ers have these sinks and I don't think I've ever heard anything but praise for them.

Has anyone used the American Standard Americast tubs? We live in Florida where all the soil is sandy, not just the beach. I'm trying to save money and have seen that the American Standard Americast products are less expensive than the comparable Kohler cast iron. Will the gritty sand that will inevitably make its way to the tubs be a problem so that I'll have dull tubs after a few years?

My americast tub has a broken place on the bottom porcelain that is the outline of a workmen's foot... It reads like a stain, but it is the porcelain layer broken away from the plastic (or whatever that is) base material. BTW the warranty is only for one year.

Just don't do it - that's what I say. Americast = Americrap.

For the OP, you might consider Moenstone, Franke or Blanco's granite or quartz composite sinks. People here rave about them.

I have a white sink. I believe it's kohler. I bought 2 yrs ago and I do remember I paid a little extra cause I was told it was "chip resistant" or something like that.
I have to say it looks great. In fact I just ordered new countertops and backsplash and I'm keeping the same sink.
The only thing that has chipped is the ring around the drain. I a have venetion bronze faucet so when I get my silestone, I'll be replacing the drains to match the faucet.

Don't buy this sink. It has been nothing but a nightmare. I'm super careful and it looks horrible. I really thought this was a good product and brand but I had it for a week and it was stained. I used the cleaning products they recommended. Customer service is non-existant.

Ditto on catki's email. Worst plumbing product I ever purchased. Unusually fast deterioration to enamel.

Americast scratches terribly easily. I would get stainless or try the granite composite sinks. I would check the big box stores they do have many cost effective choices, including the big kohler drop in. The americast will have a scratch within 24 hours......yuk will begin to grow in it so you'll see the dark line about a week later within a couple of months it will be all scratched looking and you'll be bleaching a lot to help them be less visible. I have an americast bathtub big mistake.

I bought a 36" Americast double sink because it had the shape I wanted -- little 'blip' outward on the larger side, so it fits two 12" pans. It's now 14 years old -- no heavy use in two-adult home. I've had one small chip -- now invisible with the white 'paint' you can buy for this. However...the 'finish' is dulling, whereas my Kohler prep sink is smooth as new.

I use only Bon Ami on *everything* in the house. (Can with the little chick and the saying, "Hasn't scratched yet.") Never use abrasives like Comet or Ajax. A spray with Clorox Cleanup eliminates any grey marks.
