Kitchen floor options - opinions welcome!

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here, in the middle of planning a kitchen remodel. My budget has become rather tighter recently, so my dream of a stone or porcelain floor over radiant has gone out the window. I think we can still afford wood, though, but my question is which is better for a kitchen - prefinished, engineered, laminate, or regular old hardwood? A floor dealer I talked to was strongly recommending the high-end laminates based on durability. I have to admit a couple of them look very real, but I don't know how much money I really save over hardwood, and is laminate the best choice anyway? Thanks.
