Silestone Counters Being Installed: Any Advice For Me?

It seems like it was taking forever, but we're ~finally~ almost at the end of this reno! The cabs are all in; hardware is on; crown moldings went on today. Our appliances will be installed next week. The painter comes back tomorrow. Our Silestone counters (Dark Canyon) will be installed day after tomorrow. DH has to work but I'll be there for the install. Any advice for me? What to look for? What questions to ask? What to watch out for? What to check?

I have no advice as I am still waiting on my counters. I'm getting Silestone also and can't wait. Hopefully you can give me advice in a couple of weeks. Anyway, I hope everything goes well with the install. I'm sure they will be beautiful. I'm just amazed at how beautiful the new silestone colors are. After a long granite journey, we decided on the Sienna Ridge silestone. I am kicking myself that I wasted so much time at the granite yards. Oh well, live and learn right?

Installation is complete. Some how after waiting for more than 3 months for the right silstone to arrive, I feel a bit disappointed. I love the colour. I am happy I did not accept the colour they brought originally by mistake. There are just a couple of small things that bother me and probably would not be noticed by someone else. The gap on one side of my slide in stove is large than the other side. The bottom drawer rubs slightly on one side. My utensil draw does not open and close right....oh the 'catch' is slight but it is there. And the corner on the end of the counter by the patio door was supposed to be rounded like the corners on the island. Notice I said supposed to be! Any way small things and at least I have countertops. One would think though that after the screw up and having to wait so long it would end up perfect! Plumber comes today to hook up the sinkand dishwasher. I am a senior and have never had a diswhasher so am really looking forward to this new luxury. It will be so nice to not have to wash dishes in the bathtub!! Backsplash will go in this coming week. I will be adding photos of the countertops later this morning and I will post finished kitchen photos once that is done if anyone is intersted in seeing our small DIY budget kitchen reno. Quick update. They finally finished. Actually it only took them 3 hours and that included ripping out my old counters. It wasn't bad at all. I will post pics in a couple of days. The Silestone color that we went with is Sienna Ridge. I'm not exactly sure what my cabinets are since we didn't build the house but they are a cherry cabinet with a warm brown glaze. I do have one issue though. I looked over the seams and I actually had to ask where they were but after they left I noticed one of the seams on the edging doesn't meet all the way. I'm not sure what they can do about that. You can barely notice it. Off to bed now. We just ate frozen lasagne because we can't use the faucet tonight. Oh darn, no cooking. Lol.

Total newbie without experience to back this up, but in my view, they did you wrong. And yes, they did stain the counter. Granite sucks up liquid. We moved into a "freshly renovated" apartment and had to take 900 photos (literally) because the paint guys went nuts. Really, really nuts. And they dinged the counter. And the cabinets. And, and, and. Who paints a ventilation fan (on a ceiling!) completely shut? Seriously, it's a one-bedroom efficiency apartment. There's not much you can do now except try to get some of your money back. Doubt any repair would be effective, but, you never know. I wouldn't pay for THEM to repair it though. Pay the top end guys and lesson learned. :-)

@bhushank Nicely done! Thanks for posting these! I still like some wood, even though white cabinets are clean. But was afraid that w/ the Ethreal glow‘s white background & white cabinets, it would be too steril for me. I have considered the two toned wood & white cabinets & i like the way you added a little color on your backsplash to help it not be so white. i was thinking about going up the backsplash w/ the quartz. I have the challege of having a peninsula instead if an island & a cedar cathederal ceiling in the next room. I like the tones of your cabinets & flooring that you used as well. I keep looking at ideas & I hope one day soon I can make a decision! Thanks again!

We have Zodiaq in our kitchen. Ordered an eased edge. The top edge was smooth and the bottom edge was basically unfinished -- felt like it would lacerate your fingers.

They said that's the way it's always done. (Don't you hate that answer?!) Had to have them polish it in the field, which is no small task. And the installer was pissed off because apparently the dust is super toxic. Maybe you ordered a different edge and that won't be an issue.

I had Hanstone quartz countertops installed in my kitchen 2 years ago. I was there for the installation. I looked for any chips in the edges (I did a square edge) and also paid close attention to the way they finished off the seams. Note that the installers were able to use the same "grout" for the seam and for filling in the little areas where the stone fragments might have fallen out while they cut the edge. And before the installers left, I wiped down the counters and ran my hands all over them, especially the edges, to be sure nothing was damaged.

Pay special attention to any seam work...I'm having my installers come back out because it was not a seam, I'm trying to find out what the proper materials/method are for butting two pieces together, but mine used some type of liquid epoxy that was more clear based...it splintered off and now you could cut your fingers running across it..we'll see what he does differently...
