Finishes on newport brass faucet
Comments (1)Sassync, Not sure what antique nickel looks like. For what it's worth, I just had many things installed in polished nickel, from Restoration Hardware, which is actually made by Newport Brass. I got polished nickel cause I like shine, but wanted a "warmer" look than chrome. If you put chrome next to it, you can clearly tell the difference. Depends on your color scheme--if grays and blues than chrome is better; mine was beiges and dark browns so wanted the warm tones. I LOVE the way it looks, but I will warn you about a few things versus the more "common" finishes such as chrome, satin nickel and oil rubbed bronze. First, it is hard to readily find all the accessories to match, or if you find them, they are relatively expensive. (85 dollars for a trash can for example). I don't think you'd find many accessories to match antique nickel, unless you don't care about that. Probably just whatever Newport Brass has. The cost factor also depends on how large the bathroom is and how many items you need. But the faucets, toilet bars, etc. really start adding up when/if you get a premium finish. Polished nickel will show water stains, etc more so than other finishes. Not sure if same is true of antique nickel. Just things to think about. But, again, I love the way everything looks and-- eventually --I'll feel it was worth the money! Lainie...See MoreOrca sink w/ Grohe Bridgeford vs. Brizo or Newport Brass faucet
Comments (7)OK, I called a plumbing showroom that has Grohe and they went and checked, and ALL sprayheads are plastic. I called Delta Brizo and they checked and said the inside of the sprayhead is plastic but it is wrapped in metal, so the part you see and touch is metal, not plastic on their sprayhead. They said it is to keep the weight down. I then called Newport Brass Tech support who told me the sprayhead on the 94P is solid brass with a chrome finish or other finish depending on what you order, and the only plastic on the sprayhead is the face where the water comes out. Although I like the less "bulky" look of the Newport Brass and it is supposed to be a very good solid brass brand of faucets, it has the worst warantee it seems on its finishes, and excludes hard water damage, which I have. It is the only solid metal spray head. I guess between the Grohe and the Brizo, depends on where you want your plastic, inside or outside. I suspect, but don't know, that Grohe probably has the best warantee and customer support. I am also concerned about the reach so that it is easy to use, but also which might cause less splashing. I would think a longer reach would be better on the back, but with the drain at the back, a shorter reach would more likely place the spout directly over the drain and maybe decrease splashing. That is why I am interested in anyone who has any of these, but it would be especially helpful if anyone has this sink with one one these particular faucets. Comments (6)Newport Brass faucets are made by Brasstech, Inc. a company owned by Masco. Masco also owns Brizo, Delta and Peerless faucets, and has a controlling interest in the German faucet company, Hansgrohe. Brasstech does not manufacture faucets, and has not for some time. It designs and engineers the faucets, but has the component parts cast and machined in China. These are then shipped to Brasstech's facility in Santa Ana, California where they are assembled into faucets, finished, boxed and shipped. Because the final assembly occurs in the U.S., and the final assembly is "transformational", the faucets are entitled under FTC rules to be labeled "Assembled in U.S.A.", but not "Made in U.S.A.". Most Brizo and Delta faucets are, by contrast, actually "Made in U.S.A. We rate the overall quality of the faucets as good to very good, but not excellent. The company's faucet warranty is sub-standard. For more information on over 70 faucets companies, see our Faucet Reviews & Ratings....See MoreNewport Brass questions
Comments (5)Thanks, nalcar. Good to know it has a nice locking into place mechanism. I think I misspoke when I asked about 360...I can't imagine I really need that. Maybe more like 180 and when I say that I realize that it would really be a cheap kitchen faucet that doesn't do that so I think I was creating an issue where there was none. Refreshed this morning, I feel less concerned with the questions 2 and 3 but still want to make sure the ORB is not a living finish. Between DH, DS and DCL (cleaning lady), and even my own at-times-less-than-fully-focused brain, I don't trust us not to wear the living finish right down to plain brass in no time. The store I've been talking with seems quite competent and has a good reputation; I was just concerned when I got on line and saw that the Newport sites list a Group called Powder Finish and the ORB is not included.... Maybe I should just call the company today. Thanks again!...See More- 16 years ago
