That looks GREAT! Check out lightwavelaser.com for some really great panels. I ordered one for the mirror insert in our headboard. Really beautiful stuff. They do custom too, for a price.

Wow deedles, those lamps are gorgeous! I'll have to put one of those on my wish list for when I can spend $$ on anything but my renovation (such a problem to have, I know)!

I really love the design of the flowers on that hood and fortunately have been able to get in touch with the metal artist who did the work. She is willing to do a piece for me. The challenge I'm facing is having someone come up with a way to construct the cabinet around it with what can be ordered from semi-custom/custom cabinet lines. I've even approached the KD who designed it, and spoke to him at some length about designing custom cabinets for my kitchen, but I've not heard back from him. We're doing a pretty extensive renovation including an addition, so there' s bit of a rush to get the new space under roof as it's getting a little chilly here. So in a few weeks my existing kitchen will be gone whether I have cabinets or order yet or not!

I'd originally avoided a mantle-type hood due to the costs (and because I'm just not that in love with most of them), but thought maybe if this could be done with a cabinet, I could get it done for a somewhat reasonable amount. It doesn't need to be as grand as the one in the picture with plate rail and so much molding, I'm was just hoping for a cabinet that could house the hood insert and blower along with the decorative panel and and maybe a little bit of crown molding.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm quickly running out of time.

Hi Wrenny - I went with Omega/Dynasty. I was able to order 2 custom cabinets through my KD. One was for my wall oven cab in which I'm stealing 12" from the 1/2 bath behind the wall to recess the oven and two 24" drawers on the bottom, but 12"doors on the top. The other is a base with a paper towel holder - I loved 2littlefishes design and used that as a model. My cabs don't ship til the 18th so I can not speak to the actuals yet.

You may need to send O/D a picture of what you are trying to accomplish so they can use it as a guide - that's what we did with the paper towel holder. They'd never done one before, but said they were able to figure it out. It may even be that you can send them the insert and they can put it all together.

Gee, that looks like a pretty straightforward box with some molding on the top and bottom. I can't imagine how or why that would be difficult to build? Can the person making the panel make you a metal box, too? Or what were you picturing the box being made from, wood or what?

I'm right with you in the range hood department... trying to decide on ours too. Actually, you're ahead of me because you KNOW what you want... that's the hardest part.

But whatever, that would be a beautiful thing to have in your kitchen and I'd keep at it til you find someone to build it for you. A custom cabinet company, maybe?

I have to believe that with that frosted material behind the panel that it must have a light in there, too. How cool would that be?!

Oh, just read where you said picking from the offerings from a custom/semi-custom cabinet line. If you go custom, you can have whatever you want built. If you go semi-custom, I'd still have someone else make you the box and then finish in the same stain or paint as your cabs.

Deedles, I actually got on my computer so I could chime in on your range hood dilemma too, after reading through your post on my phone.
The hood in the picture above was lit behind, and I couldn't really tell if it was frosted glass or just white opaque glass or acrylic, but yes, it's really cool! I'm thinking something a little less white might blend with the rest of my kitchen concept better... we'll have to see what counter/backsplash I end up with. And I was thinking of using stained wood matching my cabinets.

I didn't think it should be too hard to come up with this, but things have been moving slowly with the KD I've been working with. She's wonderful and even though I went in pretty much knowing exactly what layout I wanted (thanks to many, many hours scouring the posts and comments from the incredibly generous folks here on GW - though this is my own first post), she's provided much needed hand-holding and encouragement. But she is slow - or overworked - or both! Tomorrow is likely going to be the make-or-break it day for our relationship. She's coming in at 30% more than the most comparable quote in terms of cabinets (and when I say comparable, I mean the same line!) I do value her experience, opinions and guidance enough to pay extra for it, but I'm getting close to double my original cabinet budget. 30% seems a little steep - or is that just me? Anyway, I need to get to your post -- DD is after me to get off GW and be responsible about something or other.

30%? That seems a bit much, esp. since it sounds like you have pretty much figured it all out already.

I'd love to see your whole kitchen design/concept/dream board or whatever you have. Curious to see the kitchen that will complement that gorgeous range hood, lol.
