need to make final decision on backsplash

Hello
these are natural cherry cabinets with horus art tile samples.
Granite is called aries white. I have 3 samples and like ecru best but not sure if it is a good fit with the cherry cabinetry. I do like the off white samples but i keep going back to the ecru.

Sometimes i know it is best to go with your first instincts!

I think the ecru works best also. It seems to pick up the light grey of the backsplash.

Could you confirm the color names of the tiles for us, left to right? The gray tile on the left seems to be labeled ecru.

Both sound great and I can understand your dilemma. I had a hard time deciding which way to go with mine, too, initially. I finally decided to go with white only (Crema Marfil), because it would never limit what kind of colors and decorations I could use in my kitchen. Three years later, I know it was the right choice for me. In the Spring, I like to use pastel dishes and different holiday decs in there. In Summer I like bold, clear red, yellow, and green. In the Autumn I love pulling out my gold, greens and rust dinnerware and decs. During the Christmas Season, red & green holiday decs sneak into my kitchen, too. I've never had to worry about things clashing with my kitchen backsplash color. Plus, from a practical standpoint, if we ever decide to sell this place, potential buyers won't be put off by the colors I've used. The house next to ours has had four owners in 16 years and each one of them tore out the kitchen right away because they didn't like the colors used in there. MUST make backsplash decision!

Joan - we had the guy who did all the tiling in the house do the backsplash. We considered doing it ourselves, but he was only going to charge $300 to do it so we decided to not bother. Day - the kitchen area is about 16 X 16 and part of a large great room. The island is 5 X 7 1/2.

I actually really like your field tile too, so again, whatever you do, it's a winner. While I understand that most want you to keep the standard arrangement of the 4" mosaic border, blue pencil, and white field tiles so as not to upstage the cooking area, if you put anything on the counter in that area you won't see the mosaic. I like ellendi's idea of framing the mosaic, so a surround of white field tile, a line of blue pencil, and a fill of the mosaic. Again, it's all come together so beautifully, you can't miss whatever you choose.

I'm not sure how I came across this post, I think it was displayed on the right side and I clicked on it being intrigued by the tile making. I was at one time interested in working with papercrete and hypertufa. But after enlisting my brother, who wasn't as enthusiastic, and my niece, who poured cement down my laundry room sink, which original to the house had lasted 70 years, and ruining three blenders, my interest waned. True to form, if I come upon difficulty in a project, I think of it as a sign for me not to continue. And really, after all these years of trying various crafts that result in crap, I should know better. I also should have known better than to ask my brother, who always says it can't be done to any of my unique design ideas. And I should have known better than to ask my niece, who once stayed up all night before having to drive to LA for an art show, cutting mat after mat after measuring once, twice, sometimes ten times, but always coming out with the wrong size. I think we both have math dyslexia. I should video us trying anything crafty to see where we go wrong. I think both of us having ADHD might have something to do with it. Sorry for the backstory and run on sentences. So, I just wanted to see if you continued with your venture. And to say sorry for whatever tragedy occurred to cause you to have to move to Florida. Not that there is anything wrong with Florida, but it isn't Panama. Which is one of my favorite places in the western hemisphere. I hope no one is upset that I brought up a seven year old post.

I like the middle one best. The light contrasts with the granite nicely, and it still has grey undertones. The one on the left looks too dark with the countertops in my opinion.

I like the middle one. It looks like the left one is labelled ecru, but that doesn't look like ecru?

Center one...I would pull in the gray rather than add a new element, even though the ecru (cream) is also in the granite?

My vote is for the middle one as well. I'm using Horus backsplash tile too. Can't wait to see yours up on the wall!!!!

That looks like a Barker cherry. I tried a true gray with mine, and it wasn't good. (Ended up with stainless.). The one on the left looks a lot like what I tried, but pictures are deceiving. From what I can see, I'd avoid that one. Maybe the one in the middle. It would bring out the gray without being quite so gray.

FWIW, from photos of samples, pretty much everyone told me not to do what I did, and at my reveal, people were very positive. Samples are hard. Do what you like.

I like the middle one best, too. Looks like a nice blend if I can believe the photo. Ecru looks too dark and too gray and doesn't compliment the cherry, IMO. (Keep in mind that cherry wood will get darker as time goes by.)

I personally prefer either of the two white tiles. It's clean and pretty and looks nice with your granite and the color of the wood looks nice with them, too.

Thanks all. I guess i dont know the color ecru is supposed to be. Grey or tan?

the samples tiles are in order ecru,biscuit and vanilla.

Beautiful granite! I would stick with the middle one, it's clean but most of all classic. I know we are all in love with the gray trend but you may regret decision in 8 years or so. Good luck!

Whether or not that's ecru, I think it's too dark. I'd go with one of the other two (I like either one).

I am with the others - the ecru is too dark and doesn't enhance your cabinets
