What to let go and what to stand my ground on?

Just a few things that have happened recently. The seam in the marble that runs across the island isn't particularly pretty, they drilled the holes for the faucet and taps in the wrong order through the marble. The pillar at the counter is too skinny because no one bothered to ask me what I wanted. The feet (see other post) for the kitchen are not what I wanted but apparently they are the only thing that fits because that is the way the cabinets were made. I need to find feet that are less than 3" deep and I can't do it, at least not the square kind. There is more but this is the latest. I feel like screaming. What do I do? Some things can't be fixed - for example the feet. As the GC keeps saying to me.. "it is what it is" now. Please can I get some advice. I am feeling very stressed out right now.

Improperly cut/seamed marble needs to be redone. I would NOT let that one go.

Pillars can be built out if desired but I'd live with it for a while.

Don't buy that it's the only thing - there's no such thing. Wood is fairly simple to cut/shape/alter to your specifications. Any kid in a wood shop with a lathe thingy can turn you a couple of feet. They can also be added later so you may want to let this one slide for now until you find/design just the right thing.

Things done improperly should be done again.

As for style of things, our builder friend says, "Anything can be changed." But if it wasn't specified in accurate detail in the first place, it will probably cost you. So how much you're willing to change to what you want may depend a lot on how much you're willing to pay. It doesn't sound like you specified pillar and leg details first? Did you see and OK any drawings? Who hired the cabinet maker and had them start? The statement, "no one bothered to ask me what I wanted" worries me. I think it's probably more your responsibility to specify exactly what you want before you have them start work. When I'm paying the bill, I want to make sure what I'm getting is what I expect...and they can only know that by what I order and spell out. With options for details you haven't covered you can always hope they'll ask...but it's not safe to assume.

Karen, I'll share our unusually warm and sunny days with you if you share your rain. We'll go half and half and that should do it for both of us. :O) Paula, After wsing for a few years I still feel the same way you do. I've never gotten over putting those seedlings out when they are so tiny. Also, by the time they could be planted out in such a small state, the slugs are out in full force and well, you know what happens... The other issue is spotting where I've planted them. They get lost in the chaos of the gardens. One thing I am doing this year is placing collars made from yogurt and icecream containers and pop bottles too. If the collars are placed deep enough, the cutworms won't get the seedlings, and if it's high enough, it discourages the slugs. After they start growing, I'll be removing them gently so as not to disturb the plants.

Roots above ground! What is going on here?

I looked at the plant (on the right of 1st pic) and it looks like the stems below the surface are woody and unhealthy looking. I asume that the roots were a reponse to the rotting stem below. Does this sound correct? Is this a result of root rot or heat damage from when it was outside? Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much!

For Pamb100... isn't it a curious thing the power a sons wife may have? When they want to like you, they will...but when their honeymoon is over with hubby...his mom becomes mud...and they sling it off...i have watched this...i know it exists..to really good parents... I hope by 2013, you have mended some fences...but the DIL sounds like if she cannot have a mom, no one else will...i have had women tell me that they resented their MIL because their own moms were deceased... We all say..that we raise children to be independent, but we do not get any parental reward when a son feels it is easier to stay away from his family to keep his angry wife happy...and then we think...was it worth it..the whole journey...for me, it was not I have a lifetime of photos that I need to give my son, because I have no use in looking so far back...i have no idea why i have so many pictures...forget scrapbooks...it would be a painful thing to do...the sad thing is that my son is teaching his sons to do the same thing to them....and i feel sad about that...i don't wish that on my DIL... She will not always have a busy life...circumstances will turn...and they will have wives...women in their youth, cannot fathom what retirement and losing family to illness will make their older years... I have had cruel words filtered my way, indifference, neglectfulness and many hurts that may revisit her....my son just seems to be helpless...what do sons really do when their wife declares she does not his family...maybe like isn't the word...but she does not want to give us any time...should they divorce? So...you see...turning loose to the hope of the all american family may be the best thing you could do.. Feel lucky though...your spouse supports you in seeing the reality, mine has hidden his head in the sand...and it is devastating....

Service was good with the sectional manufacturer, got delivered on time and is great quality. The poor service I am complaining about is from the furniture store owner only. Anyway I am working with another local store on a different ottoman, golly gee, I got a price within an hour of my email today, that is what you call service! I went in and brought home 3 red fabric samples. None are exactly the red I am looking for but I think I may have to comprise some.

The issues with the cabinetry may or may not be all the carpenters fault. They didn't ask you, but you should have made your wishes known. That sounds like it was a miscommunication problem Those things are probably fixable to a degree anyway. The marble...that is a whole different story. You paid a LOT of money for that hunk of rock and they need to make it right.

I actually did tell the KD that I was wanted tapered feet although I didn't specify the size. I guess I just assumed that she would make sure the cabinet makers knew how much space to give the feet. Hindsight is 20/20. Knowing what I know now, I would have been more specific.
