Purplepansies Blue Louise--I love the combination of the copper brown and the blue. Florantha Starry Night--Good job finding swirly tile. I tried this exercise, but was stumped searching for swirly tile. I love the dark blue drapes. Purplepansies Approaching Thunder Storm--Oooh, I love the artwork! You did a great job of capturing the colors and the mood of the painting. I love the magma supreme granite. Honorbiltkit Vuillard--Also a beautiful painting, full of interesting details and patterns. You captured the color of the rug in the painting, and the painting you chose for your design does a great job of mimicking the painting in the painting. If that makes any sense. Palimpsest Vuillard--You also did a great job of capturing the colors of the painting, playing up the neutrals a bit compared to Honorbiltkit. The floor--is it Marmoleum?--mimics the colors of the rug. Style-wise, the table is unexpected, but I really like it in the design. Pricklypearcactus Lanadscape with Butterflies--I like the interplay of colors in your kitchen just as much as in the original painting. I just want to say how very much I've enjoyed this thread. I liked the artwork, I liked the kitchens, and I liked all the creative thinking that went into putting them together.

Ahhhh, paint colors. On my screen the mock up by blondell looks like a very creamy rich color. I'm bummed that on the decks when looking at manchester tan and normadic dessert they are more tans and not at all golds/yellows. My concern is making this work with the rest of the home as we have the golds/reds going on and the house is so open. I think that is why the designer chose the above listed colors because they matched the granite and tile and then had a much deeper color on the same strip that I could use in our great room. I want the kitchen to work and match, but also need to keep in mind my great room, dining room and furnishings. I have all new furniture and can't possibly start over. I'm going to have to start testing lots of samples, but hoping I can find something not too tan or too beige. Wish it wasn't so difficult. Perhaps more of a creamy neutral would work? Any more paint suggestions? Thanks :) I really hope I can find the perfect color choice to give me blondell's work of art and still match the rest of the home. I'm now concerned I'm trying to marry tan and gold and they will be a sure divorce before the honeymoon is over:--OO)

With the real estate listing idea, is it everyone re-doing the same kitchen, or everyone picks a different listing and works from that? I thought it was the former when it was originally proposed, but either would work. I actually have a sports fan kitchen ready and waiting--I did it for the tract home thread (not thinking sports fan, but it is incidently in my college colors), and it didn't quite work (mostly because I was thinking the home would have an open or quasi-open floor plan, and I couldn't figure out how the kitchen colors would fit into the larger space). But since we just did a color-themed DAT, I think we should do something different for this one. Marcolo, I think that there is some truth to the in crowd/out crowd idea. Some of it is driven by indivduals who want to be cutting edge. Some is driven by the industry, since remodeling is significantly driven by things being identified as dated (if nothing was ever dated, we'd all keep our stuff until it wore out, and where's the profit in that?). In clothing fashion, I have seen so many trends come and go, and be completely reviled, only to come back again with a different name 15 or 20 years later(bell bottoms, flares, boot cut; hip huggers & low rise). I have photos of me from high school in outfits that would have been the height of fashion two years ago. I've seen this happen so many times that I no longer take clothing fashion at all seriously, and laugh at those who do (waiting for my daughter to hit her tweens). Design cycles in kitchens are much longer, and so things stay out of fashion much longer.

For those who are messing with this challenge, I empathize. This is harder than it at first seems. Once you get the color decisions made, you then have to find products to fulfill it. Ain't easy. Many times they are "close matches" at best, close but no cigar. The discussion on the other thread has run toward a discussion of the difference between using color when creating art and using color when decorating a living space. Color variations allow painters to create spacial dimension within the artwork whereas in color applications in interior decorating, the variations in a color that occur because of light's effects through spatial dimension and object orientation can thwart a color scheme. If that all sounds esoteric, I apologize. It's easier to understand intuitively than to explain. This makes me think about the House Beautiful series of features using paintings or photos to make a color scheme--they draw out a color from each of a number of prominent places in the image. I can't seem to find an example of one of these features in the online site, but subscribers will know what I'm talking about. I bet the editors have to mess around a lot before they choose the actual color scheme, arguing about whether a matched-up color sample is a hair too green or too dark or whatever to play nicely in a multiple color palette. Another issue is whether to copy the artwork's proportional emphasis on each color or merely readjust the proportions. In my case, I'm trying to decide about floor color--the best-color-match product I'd actually enjoy having on a real floor is not a dominant color in the art piece. And unless I decide to use painted cabs I have to work in real wood colors also and that creates another emphasis conundrum also.
