I just tried to find it in the Finished Kitchens Blog with no luck, but there was a GREAT kitchen posted on the forum once with very dark brown quartersawn oak mixed with light maple cabinets. It would obviously be 'safer' to stick with one wood type if you're doing different colors, but I think your color combo could be very rich and the different textures would just add another dimension.

What do you plan for the countertop(s)? What about floors? Since it's open to the great room, what is going on in there, material and style-wise, that might help us get the bigger picture of your home and how this will all work together?

I am planning to do creamy yellow walls (Ben Moore Cream Yellow) with white baseboards and doors. I am hoping for a light granite with character, veigns, splotchy etc to hide messes. I have three kids and am open to granite suggestions. As far as the floor it will be tile throughout the great room. Most likely porcelain in a mix of beigey colors to hide messes again. The applainces are SS, I am debating between the GE Cafe line or Profile line (dh prefers the look of the profile with the black accents and archs). We will slowly start buying new furniture for the house but nothing has been decided we like simple pottery barn type stuff.

Bump. I am finalizing our order this afternoon. I am getting nervous. Anybody have any input?

Sorry you're not getting any more input. Sounds lovely to me...Kind of goes with the Pottery Barn look you like, although I'm not sure about it looking 1920's California style. Not too much maple or that medium golden tone then, I don't think...Unless I have the wrong thing in mind. What door design are you using?

As for becoming dated...Maybe, but most things do. Do you need to be concerned about resale in the near future? Is this something you could be happy with even if it goes 'out of style?' The answers to those questions may affect your decision.

Have you tried posting your question on the home decorating board? There are some people that frequent that board who really have a great eye for colors, styles, etc. I've seen a number of questions posted there concerning kitchen decor.
