Please help with how to design 2 different color cabinets.

My head is spinning and I need to nail down my kitchen cabinet order. We are building a new home with a huge great room. The kitchen has a u shaped island and cabinets along the back wall. I really like the look of two different colored cabinets. I was thinking of putting a chocolate oak on the u-shaped island and a medium tone maple along the back wall. Is it a mistake to mix both wood grains and colors? Does anyone have pictures of mixing the cabinets? Any tips to incorporate the two succesfully? Will this look dated soon?

We live in California and I am going for a 1920's California style. Wallace Neff inspired, Golden Age if that makes sense. I like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware with a modern twist.

The link has the colors I am thinking of but am open to suggestions. 12th down on the left thumbnails is the chocolate (aurora oak) back wall is the harvest maple color. They will both have the same cabinet door design.

Thanks everyone.
