different color upper & lower cabs?
Comments (10)I think you know your kitchen and your vision. When I started my kitchen I wanted not different uppers and lowers but 3 different colors. One wall was a natural wood, the opposite wall painted red and the breakfast area at the end and the pantry coming off the breakfast area in a third color. Every single  and I mean "every single"  person I described it to said "isn't that too much?". The cabinet maker couldn't wrap his mind around it and had to do 5 sets of plans before he got it all right. Even after that, he couldn't follow his own plans and would only do and install one color at a time. As a result my small galley kitchen took MONTHS for the cabinets and adjustments to them. (...with all the other work held up by them.) Now that it's finished I think it's glorious and everyone is saying "Oh! That's what you had in mind." And I think it has a lot of personality and keeps the eye moving so the space doesn't seem so small. Someone here has some fabulous custom cabinets that are actually constructed of two different woods laid out in graphic designs. They're not the mood I'd ever pick but they're spectacular nonetheless and I can't imagine they won't really impress buyers should they ever be willing to let that kitchen go. You can always get a set of plans and color them in....See MoreReplace just upper cabinets - different color?
Comments (16)Thank you all so much for your great advice. Live wire oak - yes, you are right. Some people do like the look of 30 in cabinets. My issue is just as much about my lack of storage as it is my preference for taller cabinets. I really like the idea of adding cabinets on top with glass. I guess that's called stacked cabinetry? After browsing online, I might actually like that look more than the solid 42 inch. I would probably do textured glass because it would be more functional than decorative. Okay... I think I know the answer to this last question, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case. I would have to keep the existing uppers and the new top cabinets the same color, right? Either stick with the wood or have everything painted white? For some reason, I think I remember seeing someone on this site about 6 months ago who posted a picture with white on top of wood?! But I'm probably wrong. Pbrisjar - The backsplash behind my stove is just a 4x2 piece of Armstrong Metallaire. I ordered it online from Lowes. (I think shipping was outrageous to have it sent to the house, so I did store delivery). Mine is the large floral pattern. And it is actually metal. Home Depot sells a faux tin backsplash that is made of plastic. This isn't the same thing....See MoreHas anyone ever used different cabinet brands for uppers vs lowers?
Comments (14)I have Conestoga cabinets and added a Rev-A-Shelf under the sink. It was a bit iffy if the options Conestoga had available would fit, so GC and I decided to buy locally once the cabinet, sink, etc was installed. I wouldn't expect you'd have issues with aftermarket Rev-A-Shelf as long as the kitchen is designed around the specs. Also wanted to give a high-five, because that was my main inspiration pic too! Love it!...See MoreKitchen Cupboards - Different colours for uppers and lowers?
Comments (4)When I posted on here 13 years ago about doing our kitchen two tone, everyone said it was a trend. We still love it. We had the opportunity to change it after a house fire 3 years ago, but chose to keep it. As Sabrina says, there are loads of pics out there. I especially like the neutral greens being used on the lowers these days (mine are black). Please post progress pics - would love to see it....See Moremarcolo
