Advice ...solid surface vanity with children?
Comments (5)It doesn't say what was used to test them. Out of 9 materials the solid surface rated 6th. Here's the order from top to bottom: Engineered stone, granite, tile, stainless steel, laminate, solid surface, marble, concrete, and limstone. Stains and scratches for the solid surface were rated just "good" and that is what made us worry. Your experience makes us think we should not worry so much and go with what we like....a lighter color so scratches won't be so obvious. If it can survive hair dye, then it must be able to survive anything my grandson can inflict upon it:)...See MoreHelp! Solid Surface vs. laminate
Comments (9)Everyone I know grew up with laminate and it wears like iron if you don't mind seams. If the solid surface is shiny, it won't stay shiny. A matte finish with a lighter color will help disguising the inevitable scratches that occur until they eventually meld into a patina. Both types can be cleaned with just about anything - 409, Windex, bleach, etc. You don't want to use abrasives on laminate, whereas solid surface has color all the way through. If you want an undermount sink it's much easier with solid surface. (It's been done with laminate but I wouldn't risk the water damage.) I have Corian on my perimeter counters because I loved the color, dislike the seams and didn't want the edgebanding or postform edge that you get with formica. I wouldn't ever recommend a white corian sink though. Impossible to keep clean without daily bleach and scrubbing. I have a stainless undermount....See MoreNew Orleans area granite / solid surface help
Comments (4)I'm 60 miles North of New Orleans and I'm just finishing a total renovation. We bought our granite in Picayune, Ms. Here's the link. They have great prices and do excellent work. It's hard to find a yard that sells to individuals and installs. They also have a very large selection. There's also a yard on Highway 40 in Tangipahoa Parish. They don't install but you can go there and pick out what you want and they'll recommend installers. Here is a link that might be useful: The Stone Shop...See Moresolid surface overhang question
Comments (13)hi crcollins - coming along beautifully! I cannot wait to see your finished kitchen. Not sure if this would help but if you need to buy aftermarket brackets, check this place out. We ordered a couple for our kitchen and I was really impressed with the quality of construction. They weigh a TON! Here is a link that might be useful: Centerline Brackets...See Moreplllog
