Need Your Help Choosing a Wood Island Countertop
Comments (10)I just got a black walnut from Craft Art, actually. Mine is a bit lighter than your sample overall, but pieces of it are probably about that tone (or how it looks on screen, anyway). What about one of the reclaimed woods? They have more character but won't experience as much (if any) change over time... they've already aged! This is Reclaimed Beech: This is Reclaimed Chestnut: And this is a Black Walnut that seems lighter than your sample. can you request something on the lighter end of the spectrum? (they'll probably give you the manditory "its a natural product thing" like companies do with stone, but that doesn't mean they won't try! I am pretty sure they have to put that in writing to for the whole CYA thing. - msg me if you need me to write what CYA stands for!) Here is a link that might be useful: site where i got pics from...See MoreNeed help choosing kitchen lighting above island/table
Comments (11)I do agree with Olychick though - the kitchen is very traditional so I'm not sure you can get away with something leaning so far modern. I don't think you have to go as foofy/ornate as the previous owners did - but I don't think you can do super sleek either. I think you're going to have to try and find some kind of happy medium. Groveraxle always has great suggestions, hopefully she (or someone like her - a pro) will weigh in and help find you something you love, but will also work in the space as it currently exists....See MoreNeed your help choosing a sofa and giving our living room a makeover
Comments (4)I think I would want a couch with low square arms that are equal to the height of new end tables. Low arms make it easier to stretch out on if used for napping and easier to reach drinks on an end table. I have a leather couch and a fabric covered love seat. The love seat is much more cozy, the leather is stiff. I got the leather because we could use it to take a break from working outside (dirt on clothes - mud on shoes). I would go with neutral colors and add texture and color with pillows, throws or fabric covered foot stool. Are you considering shades? I think Roman ones could look good. Also think about how many cushions for couch - one, two or three. I wish I had gone with two instead of three for the couch and one for the love seat. The plus side of more cushions is that you can move them around if one side of the couch is used more than the other. Also do you want to be able to remove the back cushions or do you want them attached. Do you want to be able to flip the cushions on the seat - I can do it with my fabric couch but not with the leather. Some stores have a basic model with customization - cushion firmness etc. Ethan Allen has some models you can customize. Also think about VOC's - Pottery Barn has certified furniture for those concerns....See MoreHELP CHOOSING CHAIRS FOR THIS TABLE IN NEED OF IDEAS NEED YOUR HELP
