Comments (40)You do not need to resurrect this thread. This thread is part of the Knowledge Base contained in the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5500754/new-to-kitchens-read-me-first . It's better to not resurrect old threads as you knock people off the first page who are asking for help now. If you have a question that is not answered in this thread, please start your own thread. Many of the regulars will bypass a thread when they see it's an old thread, knowing the original poster no longer needs help. (This has a lot to do with the fact that some Houzz Pros and others often spam us to try to drive traffic to their sites and/or hire them.) [Bold is used above so others will notice the statement as well since we can no longer use color and other formatting to draw attention to something.]...See MoreUpdated layout--still needs some work--help, please!
Comments (32)J- Okay, that Avantium is cool! I can see why you want to get one for your new kitchen :) What about a refrigerator drawer, or even two? You could put it/them under the dish storage (one possibility) where they would be really close to the sink and the stove. This would give you a place to put the smaller items, while leaving plenty of space for big items, water, pop, etc. in the big fridge. I've thought about this myself a few times, with some of my layouts, but I've been gravitating to a smaller kitchen lately (shocking, I know LOL) but fridge drawers are a great way to keep a few items handy, without the big fridge right in the work area. If you had veggies, butter or margerine, some cheese, cream or milk, etc. that would be a lot of the items (at least a lot of mine) that I run back and forth grabbing, while I'm also trying to stir a sauce or wash something at the sink. Your landing space by the fridge (first plan) seems fine, for the occasional item and usually I get the big ingredients from the pantry and fridge before I start a meal. What do you think? As for you back, totally been there...after lifting too much hay for horses a few years back. Another good reason to think about dish washer drawers, too :) I think the stove on the back wall could make an incredible focal point. What are you thinking about for stove/cooktop? What style are you leaning towards? I know the plan is the first step, but what are you ideas for the room? Love to know details on your design...the plan is so important for function, but the design...that's the fun part!...See MoreIkeafans website has closed down
Comments (53)Usafamomsq8, I am really pissed too - this being the nicest word I can print. I have saved a number of pages of gorgeous ikea hacked kitchens. It had been my plan to spend time at the ikeafans site to see what other ideas I might be able to incorporate that I hadn't already considered. We are two months away from the remodel and I am finalizing my layout. Obviously there was a financial reason they did this. I suspect that because people were buying cabinet fronts elsewhere they felt it was costing them too much money in lost revenue. I am sure they weighed the cost of litigation to lost dollars in sales and it made sense for them to close it down. I feel sorry for the couple losing the site they must have worked very hard to put together. Sadly, they are a multinational corporation and we are but ants at their picnic, so unless someone comes up with another idea, we have just been stomped on....See MoreStill working on bathroom design (tile). :(
Comments (16)"As I am spending all this time in the tile stores I see/hear people pop in, seemingly for their first visits, look at the tile boards, debate 5-10 minutes, and then order tile!!!!! It is unreal! how can it be so simple for them!"-wow. I remember feeling so lost exhausted and tired in one of the huge stores in LA..and some woman came up to me and asked me "I'm so overwhelmed..can you help me pick something?" have no idea why she approached me..maybe because my jeans were in the laundry and I wore something nicer? lol. or maybe just out of desperation. because nobody's helping you in these huge places. I told her "I'm sorry I can't..I wish someone would help me))" It would be nice and interesting to help of course but I felt like dying between all these tiles and stones..like they're there to crush me or something. had to get myself out of that store asap. too huge, too overwhelming..nowhere to sit..i felt like i was going to faint. this poor lady probably felt the same way. I'm trying to think why it's so beautiful in the nature and sometimes so hard in the interiors-to marry some very different things. when it's about these finished hard surfaces. maybe because our variation is very pre-set? it's too much but too little, at the same time? I know I'm not making much sense..I'm just thinking aloud. The view out of your window really intrigues me. Maybe not just colors come into play but the overall feel? our walls etc are too plain too sleek..can't compete with the snow? Snow's white but also ever changing..has depth that's hard to get with tile..it's never really just white even though it's an icon for white..? (My DH also used the word "cave" a lot lol. )...See Morekiko_gw
