Just Starting - First Question - Mixing Wood Finishes

We're planning a "medium" remodel of kitchen. We are making cabinet selections now. My husband and I both like both glazed and cherry cabinets, but can't decide between the two. So, we've "sort of" decided to mix them. We are thinking of cherry for the bottom, and glazed for the top cabinets.

However -- in all the pictures I see online (including the Finished Kitchens blog here), the "mixing" of wood finish always seems to be between the island and the wall cabinets; not between the top and bottom cabinets.

We don't have an island.

What do you think.....can you talk to me about the wisdom, the "right" or "wrongness" of having cherry on the bottom and glazed on the top? Even though it seems to me that it's "ok", I have yet to see it done anywhere.

Thanks.

Miss Mary
