Cabinet maker's paint (lacquer) job on custom kitchen cabinets???
Comments (3)Your requests are not unreasonable. In my mind, industry standard is that you should get a full coat of paint (no missed spots and complete coverage with a good film build) and the surfaces should be smooth. You are right about the environment in which the cabinets were sprayed. Some guys go to great lengths to create a dust free area in which to spray and others are cabinet makers first, painters second. With lacquer because it dries so fast, you really have to spray an item and move it out of the area. If overspray hits a door that is already dry, then that door will be rough....See Moreone day at a time.....my remodel adventure..
Comments (4)You go girl! My experience is that the first time I do a project I don't really save any money because I use it to buy the tools I need & it takes longer while I learn on the job. But on the next similar project I save a bunch. If you find a contractor that acts mad that you tried to do some work yourself -- then you shouldn't hire that contractor. He'll just try to steamroll you through the whole project. Many contractors will help you learn from their work. You can almost always negotiate to do the demo and clean up work to save some money. Watching home improvement shows on tv can help too - but now you can find many videos on YouTube that show you how to do activities. Paneling: You might be able to cut the paneling off at the edge of the cabinets and then use some wood trim to hide the paneling behind the cabinets. This would save the work of removing the cabinets. Good luck. You'll get better with each project. p.s. I second the idea of doing some tile projects. Very rewarding & you'll save a bunch of money....See MoreKitchen cabinet resurfacing or new one
Comments (5)Depends on what your goal is for the work. Are the existing cabinets in otherwise good shape.? Are they fully functional? What is the build quality of them? How many years are you trying to get out of them? Is this a situation where this will remain a rental forever or do you see yourself moving into the house down the line? Do you plan on owning the property for a while? If you do IKEA cabs, do you plan on installing yourself. If not, you also need to budget in install and demolition cost....See MoreIs the gray walls and white kitchen cabinets trend still on?
Comments (30)Hi Kate, We live in NYC area, go to several open houses a month, many are multi million dollar properties. On this end the answer is "no." Grey is very popular here and sends a mental note to perspective buyers that the property has been updated. Anything that is beige screams "builder" and all white walls translates to "landlord-rental paint" Currently, buyers here shudder at anything in the orangy-red colors. I've heard countless people mumble at open houses "we'd have to redo the floors" when presented with outdated, bright orangey colored wood floors. White kitchens and subway tile is received with relief and enthusiasm. Having said that, "grey" comes in so many different shades that it's easy for everyone to find one they like. Agree with everyone above though, find what you like and go with it! We have lots of grey in our home and love it, but our grey is in paint only and at that, on accent walls. I could easily have it changed in a heartbeat....See More- 9 years ago
