help me pick lighting. can't postpone anymore

I have to make a decision on my pendants by tomorrow. They will be hung over the peninsula and on a monorail in an s-shape. Here is an overview of kitchen and one with a closeup of granite.

backsplash is going in tomorrow and will cover walls from granite to ceiling on both walls. The fabric for the window coverings has green, burgundy, browns, a little of the amethyst, and creamy beige.

The ones I really like are too expensive and my DH won't give in. (I even told him that is what I want for my bday next week. Might be too big anyway.

so I am looking at these, which come in a green, amber, brown amethyst or red. I saw teh brown and amber, but not the red. The amethyst would match, but I don't think it would look good. I am doing 2 lights. Any thoughts on colors? I am thinking the brown.

I also liked the ones that igloochic put in nomorebluekitchens post on pendants,(red, gold and brown) but don't know where they are from and they probably won't work with the monorail I already bought.

Well here is an attempt. You probably need help from rhome410 or redroze or others experts here. Are these too big?

After seeing your first choice, I'd like to see something with deeper, more dramatic color, but the shape/style seems all right.

Lyno, don't sell yourself short...You did a great job. The site says they're 5x7", so it seems like you've hit it pretty well.

It does sound horrid, and I empathize about lack of sleep (if I don't get enough, I'm worthless). My mother has Restless Leg Syndrome (they make medication for it) and she does not stomp or thud around the house at night (or day). It's just as is sounds, her legs are restless during sleep and might involuntarily kick, jerk or twitch. I was thinking about the LL's perspective, tho. If I had a tenant that was disturbing others, but said tenant told me they had a medical condition that led to frequent need for nocturnal walks, I'd probably find myself in a pickle. Even if I knew the condition, and that symptoms or remedies didn't mesh, I'd still be in a pickle. I know this is a stretch, but say LL keeps after stomping tenant. Stomping tenant could well produce a doctor's letter that says 'my patient needs to walk at night for relief'. That's just something a LL really doesn't want to push, because pushing it hard enough might find them slapped with a discrimination suit or something. But obviously you can't continue to live like this. I'd suggest something along the lines of larke's suggestion. Be sure to let LL know you understand that she might be dealing with a tenant's medical condition, and you respect that. (That will help keep LL from being put on the defensive. A defensive LL is an uncooperative LL.) Then let her know that you are developing health conditions of your own, find that you can't perform your job as expected, find yourself nodding off at inappropriate times, your heart races at night when stomping starts, etc. (Yes, the hassle part of changing units would be as camlan mentioned in 1st paragraph, 12/5 post.) Despite LLs predicament, and upstairs tenant's stomping, you are still entitled to peaceful enjoyment. Hopefully you can get it with some good old-fashioned open communication and a little psychology thrown in when talking with LL.

Hi, I'm new here. I've been looking online for ways to cope with living with a very sloppy person. It seems nearly impossible to change a slob. I found one site about living with a sloppy partner. I have read such sad accounts, couples that marry (I guess totally unaware of how the other really keeps house), and end up divorcing. I notice that mostly, the tidy, organized person, the one who prefer to live in a sanitary and orderly house, ends up having to change, ends up having to relax their standards, ends up having to back down, and having to live in silent frustration. It seems so unfair, how slobs are able to have/take such control. They dictate how things are going to be, how things going to look, smell, etc. Slobs don't see a need to change how they are, all they have to do is drive the clean person crazy. My daughter and her child and I share a rental since she split up with her bf. Every day I wake up and cringe, dreading what the day will hold. It starts with my daughter never waking to my gd crying and screaming. I have to go in her room to wake her and I dread it because I just know I'm going to have an out of body experience. The smell of her room hits me as I open the door. This sets me off. She doesn't bother to flush her toilet. She lived in poverty with her bf for several years and developed some really bad habits, like half the time they didn't have tp, so she doesn't always bother to use it. Her floor always has junk thrown about, clothes all over, clean mixed with dirty, who know which is which, dirty silverware and drinking glasses she has repeatedly been asked not to take to her room, pop cans spilled or half full and just waiting to be spilled by her child. A big stinky mess, squalor. And there she is snoring away, none of this bothering her, not even a bit. Sigh She makes a mess in every other room, has to be reminded to clean up after herself, or she won't do it. Her cleaning up after herself barely qualifies as cleaning. She works full-time and goes to school, so she is busy, but she uses this as an excuse every time we get into it over her piggish ways. We get into some big screaming matches, and I'm always the loser. Nothing ever changes. She might go to her room and make an angry attempt at straightening out, but not really cleaning, slamming things and yelling so I hear her. I feel like I'm living with a child, not a young adult. I'm having to parent her, and should not have to. I'm near retirement age with my many joint pains, it was a struggle to keep up with my own chores when I lived alone. and now I feel like I work nonstop and get nowhere. I'm sad and angry over all of this, and when depression sets in, it really affects how I feel and what I'm able to do. None of this filth bothers her. Her brand new car, the new car smell has been replaced with the smell of rotting food. She is so gross. I sometimes lose my mind, especially when the smell from her room makes it's way downstairs. I have simply lost it and have started cleaning her room while she's at work, because I just can't take it anymore. I have found dirty diapers tossed in the cabinet under the sink, pads with dried blood thrown on the floor by the toilet, scum with hair, dried toothpaste and makeup on every inch of her sink. I can't understand how someone can live comfortably in such an unsanitary environment. Disgusting. Thanks for reading my long vent about what I'm living with. Thank you for your comments.

Thanks circuspeanut! I never thought of painting the siding light and the trim dark, but I like it! LOL on the orange cat too, so he can match. What is funny is that we plan on staining the deck just that color! In my photo, the addition directly in front is in the shade. The far corner, behind the car, is in direct sunlight in that photo and probably the true color. The Sparrow may be too much gray since there is so much orange in the brick, but I'll go take another photo as soon as the heat lets up a little and see what those colors look like in both full sun and shade. tuesday 2008, yes there is a golden tan in the brick. That is the body color of the brick in fact. Annie, when we bought the house, the siding was an orangy yellow and the trim and shutters were a deep rust. I didn't like it at the time, but then I didn't like much about the house when we bought it. lol karin l, I think an eggplant would probably look good with it. Unfortunately, houses around here are pretty plain. I drove around the other day on my way to town and ALL the newer houses with colors close to mine were all light beige, and one color at that. I'd never noticed that everyone seems to have the same color paint. I do want to be a little different, but I also want to sell the house quickly if it comes to that. fori, sage green looks good with the brick. That's what we painted the trim, shutters and door 15 years ago. I could go back with it, but I'm also a little tired of that color. I'll play with it though and see how it looks now that the brick is different. GreenDesigns, I think that Adobe Dust might be a winner. I really like it on the screen. I'll have to see if I can find it on my program and try it out. The Alligator Green reads gray on my screen. Jodokus, you could be right, and I'll go see what Durango Dust looks like. The front of the house has a gable that could look top heavy if the color is too dark, but I'm open to anything right now. Dh bought the base paint while it was on sale. I guess I need to see if it's a light or dark base before I get too carried away. lascatx, I'll look at gray. I really hadn't considered it before seeing the photoshop circuspeanut did, and I like the gray there. I know the sage looks good, and I bet a darker green would look good too.

This goes way beyond normal kids staying up late at night; just the sleep deprivation alone is torture & abuse. The stepson enjoys doing it, & his father enables it. "My family doctor and my psychiatrist feel that I should leave this unhealthy environment but I do love my partner and that is what keeps me here." I hate to say it, but I think you'll leave pretty soon one way or another. If you don't go under your own steam, an ambulance will take you to the hospital or the nursing home or the funeral home. & this "partner" will not come visit you; he'll throw your belongings out & forget about you (although if you're in the cemetary, he may tell people how broken-hearted he is). This is how abusers are, I've seen it before. & he *is* an abuser; even though it's the son who's mistreating you, the father is making sure that the son can keep doing it. sort of abuse at arm's length. It doesn't matter how often you catch the son & present concrete evidence to his dad, the dad will somehow sweep it under the rug & turn the tables & accuse you of causing trouble. That's called blaming the victim. Loving somebody does *not* involve taking whatever abuse they or their messed-up offspring dish out & coming back for more. Loving someone doesn't mean throwing yourself on the floor for them to wipe their feet on & pleading for them to stop; (& why would they? hey, they've got a good doormat there). Loving relationships are just that, *relationships*. Love is a 2-way street, & you are going against traffic on a 1-way street here. You've already gotten to a stop light, & your doctors have told you to take a sharp turn, but you keep thinking that the oncoming traffic will let you through. Take that turn & get off that street. Since you are seeing a doctor & a psychiatrist, I'd guess that you can afford to get a place of your own, but if you can't, call a women's shelter for guidance. Please take care of yourself & be good to yourself.

Rhome I really wanted something more dramatic too and looked at the lights as a work of art, but my DH still won't go for them. That is why I haven't made a decision, because I really want those.

mommyof5 They are from the same place as Anita's sugar pendants. tech lighting. Do a search for MO-PLAYA Pendant brown. They list for $515.(each) and my GC's rate is $334.75 (each) They are handmade I think out of shells. They have them in white and they are less expensive.

Pbrisjar- I looked at the Sugar when I saw that thread, and none of the colors are right. The Sahara is just below it in their catalogue and comes in a red, but they didn't have it at the store and I am not sure it will go. I am thinking of the brown. There are only 2 companies that make pendants for teh monorail I got. Wish I hadn't seen the Playa. :(

You said they might be too large - can you give dimensions and let someone on here photoshop so you can get a better idea if they are too large and feel better about looking for something else. If not, how about asking DH to combine b-day and Christmas for the lights? I know what it's like after seeing something you love and trying to find a substitute - you will always wonder about those. I cheated and didn't put the cords in so they are just sort of floating there. I know it'd be more expensive, but the creative part of me says 3 lights, especially if you used the Brandy pendant from LBL as they are very slendar.....it is my favorite for color. Also, with the S monorail, I'm not sure they'd be as lined up as I have them. Did you try the paper plate or balloon trick I've read about here on the forum to see where they'd hang? Just a thought...

I think I might have made the "Stogie I" too long, just look at it for color; in Nomoreblue's posting above, it looks to be a little shorter and maybe wider than the Brandy Pendant.

Lyno You are wonderful!! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have to go to work (have been working 6-5 and then coming home and trying to make decisions and attend to my part time business. Oh and try to get some sleep in there too! I think the amber is too yellow, but love my expensive ones, and the skogie if they are not too long might also work. I need to call the lighting company and see if that brand will work on my monorail. Thanks so much!!!

Marybeth1- well a girl can dream.. I love them too. I keep hoping something will come up to let me have them, but am looking into other options just in case.

anita- don't be sorry. I did the same thing when I first saw them. There was no price tag on the brown one and the white one was marked about the price you saw, so i figured it would be the same. When I got the quote and it was so high I almost fell over.
