I had to look at this pix far too long to see what you were talking about. He placed the screws in identical positions, the handle overhang itself varies from the large to the small and I would have never noticed this in a million years had you not posted. I think you are safe to let it lie. Esp. since your other option is to get a new door. I'm honestly not sure its even proper to change the screw location.

The lower one is longer than the upper one. Is that your issue? Do you want to replace the upper one with one the same length as the lower one (and fill the hole)?

Leave them alone - they're fine - certainly not worth getting new cabinet doors. No one will notice it except you. If you're really unhappy, get both handles the same length and fill in one screw hole.

My suggestion would be to live with it awhile first. Honestly, I bet you won't even notice. We're our second remodel. There are two or three little things that were off by an inch in the first remodel. I got over it and nobody but me has ever been able to find the issues - I've tested them :-).

If you have to do it over, I don't think you can really fill the pull holes in a decent way I suspect the fill would bug you even more than the overhang. The only clean way to fix it is an new door. Not sure how much your cabinet person charges but my doors are about $25.

I like the upper one better than the lower one, so if you change anything, I'd move the lower one down. I do think you can fix the holes if you do it carefully, or better yet, have someone do it for you. You just need to faux finish it to match.
If you do nothing, it will bother you, but others will not notice. It is not a glaring thing at all. I'd try to see if it bugs you and give it a month. I bet it is not a big issue then, but if it is, then fix it. You do not want to walk into your lovely new kitchen every day and been annoyed at a fixable thing.

If you feel like you have to fix it, I think the easier thing to do would be to cut off the extra 1/2 inch on the pull. Of course, it would have to be sanded, etc. so it looked o.k....

Where do you other pulls line up on the horizontal trim?

If they are all consistent (and they should be) get a new door. Or may contractor buy you a new door.

I think it goes in the category of "this is one of those things that I just have to let go" and pretty soon you'll wonder what you were even concerned about.

I wasn't going to put in my two-cents, but since you asked.

I noticed the mounting difference straight-a-way. But this is one of those things that I tend to notice.

Would I try and fix it? That's a more difficult question. Mostly it would depend on the cost.

1. You can try living with it for a few weeks and see how it plays on your nerves. You can wind up forgetting about it.
2. If after that time it still bothers you to the point of wanting to fix it, then you might try the filling-in-the-holes route first. If this is successful, then you're a winner and no additional cost making it even better.
3. If the fill-in doesn't work, then you can consider purchasing a new door. The only thing about a new door, I wouldn't wait too long as you want all your wood to 'age' at the same rate.

Unless your hubby spends equal or more time in the kitchen than you do, I think your comfort level takes precedence.

But if a new door costs $$$, then I could learn to love the 'unique' one.

I saw what bothered you right away. The smaller pull is fine, don't bother getting a longer one. Concerning the misplaced longer one, ask your cabinet guy how difficult and expensive it would be to lower the longer pull so it will sit at the same distance from the door edge as the shorter pull. This will involve drilling 2 new holes and filling + colour matching the 2 old holes or getting a new door with the pull in the correct location.

Cut the lower pull shorter to match the upper pull. Otherwise, if you have the pull repositioned so that the ends line up, you'll notice that the holes are not in the same place.

I had to look three times to notice what you were talking about! I was busy noticing what a nice job they did with your built-in fridge and how exactly the cabinet pulls match your fridge pulls and those beautiful pendant lights reflected in the glass of the fridge. Very well done.

We have a drawer under our built in microwave, which is in our island, that the hole was drilled in the wrong place by the cabinet guy when installing the handles. He patched the hole to match the dark cherry cabinetry and it is actually "hidden" within the lines of the handle itself, meaning he drilled them too close together. Even with the patch I see the hole every time I open that drawer, which is practically at ankle level.

I think you will notice the hole forever, if you decide to move it down, especially being so close to eye level, but will eventually forget about the 1/2" difference. I think it stands out right now because they just went in but once your kitchen is being used daily, it won't be such a big deal.

Due to the differences between the two pulls, something is always not going to match no matter what.
If you lower the longer pull, then the relative position of the mounting shafts will still be a visual cue that something's off; right now the cue is the extra projection that the larger pull has. The cure is to make both pulls match each other. The idea of trimming the larger overhang is fine, as long as they are solid metal (not tubular) and if the core metal is the same color as the finish.
Then it's do-able.
I'd be inclined to accept it as is.

You are the ONLY person that will ever notice that. I hate to minimize what is a big deal to you, but many have posted major screw-ups on this site and yours is not one of them. I am in agreement with newcastle mom. Let it be.
It is not worth the time or money to fix.

I think a filled in hole is going to be a bigger issue for you as far as perfection goes. I don't even notice it, and I'm still not sure I know what the problem is, but if anything I would just attribute any difference to having different sized handles not a mistake!

If you used the same size pulls and they were placed where they are it would be more noticeable. This may be one of the things you are scrutinizing, live with it a bit and see if it still bothers you. That said I would bring it up to cab person, they may offer a solution at their expense.

I would like to second that a filled hole is a much bigger eyesore. I would see if you can get a new pull that doesn't have that level of overhang if it bugs you.

I had to go back and look 3 times so I guess that tells me that I would not be bothered by it.... however, we all have our points that bother us so don't feel it's unjustified even if the majority here say it's fine.

You could order another larger pull and replace the smaller one. Since the holes that are closest to the ends are the same then you will only be redrilling one hole. The hole that you aren't using will be largely covered up by the longer handle.

Not sure it would have been my choice but I do see why your carpenter did it this way.... sort of a judgment call on his part.

Well the perfect solution would be to get a custom made pull that has the holes in the same place and the pull set down half and inch, but you'd probably pay more than for a new door -- and it would take longer to find a someone to make one. ;-)

I think I'd leave it, sure that a patched hole is likely to be a bigger problem, even if partially covered by the pull, you will not see it after a while and everyone else is going to be looking at the glass doors on the fridge. Leave it for a while before you give it another thought.

I didn't even have to read what was concerning you. Looking at your photo I picked out the pull overhang problem instantly. But, that's just me ... and apparently you. :-)

I would go nuts until I resolved the issue and think the best solution would be to trim, smooth and polish each end of the longer overhang until everything balances out.

Well, I would notice something even if it was 1/16" off...a curse really. Plus I suffer from "tell all", so when someone would come in and tell me it was a nice kitchen I would say "Thanks, but look what happened here." Another curse!

If it bugs you, I would fix it. I do agree that I think the larger one needs to be moved down. What I would do to fix this is take the door off and the pull, fix the holes, turn the door upside down and move the hinges to the other side. This way the "fixed holes" will be on the bottom left side (not very visible unless you are always walking around with your head hanging down). Then you are ready to drill new holes on door.

@johnliu & sombreuil_mongrel: I didn't even think of the holes not matching if the pull was repositioned but you are right- that may bother me too.

I think I am going to go with the consensus and live with it for a while. If it REALLY bothers me in a month or so, I can always fix it. DH didn't even notice the problem until I pointed it out and even then I had to really show him where the overhang differs. His wise-ass remark was "oh no, we have to sell the house"...so obviously not important to him at all.

Anyway, thank you all for the help! Now I just have to tackle the backsplash...
