uppers that sit on the counter

I love uppers that reach the counter, especially at the end of a run of cabinets, to "ground" them. I would like my upper to the left of my sink (the end of the run) to sit on the counter, like a china cabinet. But it is right there next to the sink. Is that a kitchen "don't" (losing vital counter space next to sink)? To the right of the sink is another 4 feet of uninterrupted counter space, plus the island behind it, so I think I'm pretty well covered, counter-wise. If there is another reason not to do the on-counter cabinet, please let me know. Thanks!
