Comments (15)I'm not sure I would agree with tre. Why is it a customer responsibility in this situation to find a solution? The kd is more than likely making money (could be wrong) and feeds the fabricator business he/she may not have gotten otherwise. I've been in business for myself and when I referred someone, I also shoulder some of the burden/responsibility (although I didn't make any $$ off referral) if it doesn't go right. Often referrals aren't pulled out of a phone book; there's usually been a working relationship. If you don't want to shoulder any responsibility, then say, I don't know of anyone who can do that. I would never have left a client hanging like that; it's just bad business. Put it on KD shoulders to find solutions and present to you, which could turn out to all the things that tre mentioned....See MoreI may have found my quartzite...anyone have Antarctica?
Comments (32)Well, the behavior of the rock makes sense. Knowing what we know now, thanks to Sweetcheetah, is that the rock is extremely well-bonded, pure quartz. This rock went through a lot of metamorphism to the point where the quartz grains grew into each other. The degree to which this happens with quartzites depends on how much metamorphism it undergoes. Some quartzites aren't much different from the sandstone they started out as. But others get much more heat and pressure and approach melting, but don't melt. Instead they recrystallize where the grains all grow into each other. It looks like in this rock the crystals are fairly large, which probably makes it more challenging to work with. So yeah, cutting this rock would be a lot like cutting glass. Extremely difficult and prone to breaking. As I described above, quartz (and glass) tends to break unevenly so it's hard to make a clean cut in that case. Too bad, Antarctica is a stunner. But the Snowflakes is cool too! Soilbean's example is fantastic (and those pendants - swoon!)....See MoreDoes anyone have Shadow Storm Quartzite/Marble?
Comments (67)Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble is a unique and rare natural stone that has been used for centuries in the construction of monuments and buildings. This type of marble is highly sought after due to its distinctive dark gray and white veining, which adds elegance to any space it is placed in. Homeowners and builders alike are on the hunt for Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble, but finding it can be difficult. The marble's popularity has grown significantly over the years as more people discover its beauty, so locating a quarry that stocks this particular material can be challenging. Additionally, it may take time to find either slabs or tiles large enough for larger projects. As such, many have turned to online forums where they might be able to find someone who does have Shadow Storm Quartzite Marble available - allowing them access to this sought-after stone at a more reasonable cost. Comments (31)@lynn The backsplash is a warm off white to almost taupe. In some lights done of the tile can look cream, but if you put it next to cream, it is obvious it is white. It was difficult to find a tile the color I needed, as creams are too brown, and most whites were too cool for what I needed with my tile floors (because my old floor tile I couldn't afford to change is that color and it looked dingy with bright whites). It is slightly warmer than white Chloe tile. My backsplash will only be against my perimeter quartz which has those colors (again due to my floor tile, which of course, I learned mid-install needs replacing but have to stick to design now). It does look nice by the ijen blue, as I think the biggest key is keeping the backsplash simple and Jerry the ijen be the star. The backsplash is supposed to get installed tomorrow so I'll share what it looks like. Hopefully as good as I think! 😁...See MoreRelated Professionals
