My input would be to put a prep sink in the island on the corner and flip the sink and DW. I can read pantry closet up top and broom closet but not that space in the middle. I know it's not kitchen proper though. Otherwise, I like your space.

I'm not a great fan of the fridge location, because of

1) that area is the best dish storage location

2) the fridge is a tall block between the kitchen and the window or doors you might have on the other side

3) you walk through the 'cleanup zone' to get to the fridge while cooking and any/everyone in the kitchen is, therefore, working and traveling in that same aisle.

I would prefer the fridge back over by the broom closet, but I know there are other pluses and minuses with that and some personal preference in choosing the right location for your family.

However, I think where you do have a problem that's not personal preference is the size of the aisle behind the seats at the island. It looks like you need to narrow the island a bit...Maybe the 2 ft of cabinets facing the sink and only 15" for seating overhang so that your aisle is roomier when people are at the island.

The sink is centered in front of the 70" window so it should stay put.

That's better...A prep sink would help. You would lose one seat at the island, but it would not only create a nice work area (triangle) with the stove and fridge, but could also serve the "Something here" spot, which could become a baking center, beverage/coffee center, breakfast/snack center, or whatever would serve you best. It's hard to use that spot for anything like that without nearby access to a sink.

Other option: Move the pantry to the 'something' spot and create a command/message center where you show the pantry.

I like the sink centered under the window and the island for prep space. The dish storage on the end, sounds like a good idea, too. Are you putting a hutch on the back wall of the dining room? If not, maybe a dish storage area, like in your inspiration photos.

As for the back wall, I'd be tempted to put the fridge, microwave and maybe a prep sink there, to give you a snack area and secondary work space. The only real downside to an island kitchen, is when you have to walk around the island to wash veggies out of the fridge. This way, you have a sink and the stove, just steps away from the fridge and the microwave.

You have a beautiful home and I love the windows and french doors in the dining room :)

I always wanted a little "kitchen office" space where I could look at recipes on the laptop and pay bills, because I love being in the kitchen. I would love to do something unique and nice with glass upper cabinets there.
