Best countertop edge to look 'thick', opinions please!!
Comments (15)aedevm , about your first post: squared edge and eased edge are the same thing, the same concept, expressed by two different people with different levels of expertise. Basically the same thing, not worth analyzing. The salesperson's idea of 1/2 bullnose is similar because it is not finicky and fine detailed. Something brutish and not curlicued. Coarse not fine. Large not small. It costs less to miter 2cm and the visual effect is the same result. You don't need to purchase 3cm. -- I got 2cm and made it look thinner. I had them remove the lower 1 cm by reverse bevel (and polish), and on the top half I had them do a 3/4 bullnose. This thin counter still looks big and beautiful. With the receding slant on the underside of the counter, our fingers can reach the drawer fronts more easily. The pulls are hidden under the big counter overlap (the pulls are on the top edge of the drawer fronts). All our drawers were installed at a higher level than they would have been, if we had built a thicker counter. More space. And everything is higher and thus easier to reach. Perhaps at some point in the not so distant future the artificially thicker counters will look like someone had a mental model in their mind that they couldn't get rid of no matter how much it interfered with ergonomics and function, and it will be perceived as something not to repeat in new kitchens. Comments (11)barncats- Thanks for finding that picture. It does look pretty and I think I will be happy with the look. That is a great idea to lighten up the paint by 1/2 percent. I didn't think of that and it will make a difference for sure. I'll wait on the backsplash decision and hardware until the paint and countertops are in too - great advice. I have 9 Fireclay samples here in their various white options, and I think the current wall and countertop color are darkening and throwing off their true colors. Once I get the countertop in and walls painted, I'll be sure to come back for advice and opinions. Thanks for the edge profile opinions too. It really helped narrow things down....See MoreOutside Radius on Cambria Countertop - pictures please :)
Comments (0)I have a kitchen with a fair bit of detail - capitals and corbels and have decided on Cambria Fairbourne with a Cornice edge on the island and a Boulder edge on the perimeter. Does anyone have pictures of what a 1/4" outside radius versus a 1/2" outside radius looks like ... last decision! Inside radius, due to the edge profile and equipment I am told, has to be 2 3/8". Thanks ever so much!...See MoreEdge Profile & Size/Thickness on Cambria Counters
Comments (5)Hello - I had minera in my bathroom and had to remove it and go with quartz. It started to chip and pit within three months. I called the company and they let me know that the jewel collection is prone to this. Read up the original thread....See Morefouramblues
