50” kitchen cabinet in 10’ ceiling kitchen?
Comments (6)I have 10’ ceilings. My cabinets are 42” doors with a light rail below and a lighted cabinet with crown mounding above. The white kitchen is the model home kitchen and the other picture is a closeup of my cabinets. I think a 48”+ door would be rather heavy and over time with the opening and closing of the cabinet door cause some stress on the hinge. I don’t like having “dust shelves” with the open space above cabinets. I’m 5’5” and can only reach the 2 bottom shelves without using my step stool. Luckily I have a lot of lower drawers and a large pantry, so I store more items I don’t use often....See MorePHOTO REQUEST: Stacked Kitchen Cabinets with 8-Foot Ceiling
Comments (12)You can’t do stacked cabinets with 8’ ceiling. It looks weird—squat cabinet on top of squat cabinet not a good look at all. Your ceiling will also appear lower with two rows of horizontal squat cabinets. It will also cut back significantly on useable cabinet storage space, and costs a boatload of money to look bad. The photos you linked of “the look you are going for” is of a kitchen with 10’ ceilings. If you are taking cabinets to meet your 8’ ceiling, I recommend 39” tall uppers and 3“ crown. The taller cabinets will give the illusion your ceiling is higher, and you’ll have good storage too. The upper cabinets that are next to the fridge can be glass-door cabinets if you want to store glassware and pretty china there....See MoreKitchen cabinet crown molding, ceiling molding, different sizes?
Comments (5)When I had my kitchen renovated a few years ago, I was in a bit of a dilemma: to add additional crown molding to the rest of the kitchen or not. I had simple Shaker style cabinets installed and decided to not have additional crown molding installed in my kitchen. I like the more minimalist look❣️...See Morekitchen cabinets and uneven ceiling
Comments (2)Everyone’s ceiling is uneven - everyone’s. It is Kitchen Cabinets 101 to scribe the middle piece of the crown molding so that it follows the uneven ceiling, but because it’s the middle piece, the rest of the crown molding disguises the uneveness of the scribed middle piece. One of our Kitchens Forum members Buehl described it better than me, so I am copying and pasting her explanation: A 3-piece crown molding consists of top & bottom molding all the same size throughout the kitchen. In the middle is flat "filler" piece that varies in height, depending on the ceiling height. By varying this filler piece's height, you accommodate the different ceiling heights w/o affecting the crown itself...this way the difference isn't noticeable. If you vary the top crown piece's height, it will be much more noticeable. In this pic the "Stock-S" piece is the "filler" piece...simply a flat piece of the same wood as the cabinets and finished the same as the cabinets. It is scribed to the ceiling and varies in its height in line with the variation in the ceiling....See MoreUser
